    2WD 3/4T lift?

yeah, an inch or two is all I need/want. perhaps new front susp components will do this anyway and what I saw was just tired old parts letting her front sag. But, if you know of any parts specifically, please do tell. As long as Im buying the parts, might as well get those. thx

    2WD 3/4T lift?

I know it sounds dumb, lifting a 2WD. But Id like to lift the front end especially, back end doesnt matter so much. Id like it to stand a little prouder. Do they even make lift kits for the front end of a 2WD truck?

crate engine or rebuild original 350?

Yeah, Im thinking that too. Thanks HotRod. BTW - found your headliner thread, and that looks great! Hell, your truck looks great! Id say Im going for that kind of look. You have a nice paintjob and kept things original from what I can tell. Very nice.

Oh, I shouldve mentioned my pistons are completely sooty black on the top, but I assume that can be cleaned off?

    C20 Tire size equivalents?

Probably a question for 3/4 to 1 ton owners more than anyone else, but what tire sizes and brands/models do you all run? Im restoring a 79 C20 and keeping original stock steel wheels with the bowtie alum caps, but wonder what size of tire people put on these trucks nowadays? Truck calls for...

crate engine or rebuild original 350?

Seems almost every kit out there offers new pistons - everyone replaces pistons? No one reuses them? My lifters look fine, my pistons look fine, no abnormal wear other than the orange-brown varnish on every surface not exposed to some sort of contact.

crate engine or rebuild original 350?

Ebay search turned up reconditioned stock heads for 400/pair and he said he'd thrown in a good used set of rocker arms and nuts. He mentioned I would have to adjust each rocker arm nut with the engine running, oil squirting in my face, to get them just right??!! I think he was "having a laugh"...

crate engine or rebuild original 350?

Has anyone ever come across NOS parts for these old chevy engines? I wonder what cost would be for original, unused heads, same as what I have? Im looking at the Vortec heads and they seem to only supply 67cc per cyl, while my factory heads supply 76cc per cyl. How do the Vortecs give...

crate engine or rebuild original 350?

How much are the vortec heads you're suggesting? Intake? I agree on the carb. I'm certain it's stock, how do I identify the carb to be certain it's a Q jet?

seperating 350 and 3 speed tranny

Yeah, must have been binding. Hate to think I might have damaged the input shaft by doing that. I thought the opposite - that it would make it easier to slip off. Damn.

crate engine or rebuild original 350?

It was running just ok, cursing myself for not taking a compression test before tearing the truck apart. Ive disassembled the entire truck with the intention of restoring her. The engine may have been perfectly fine to begin with, but I didnt want to restore the rest of the truck and put an...

crate engine or rebuild original 350?

Now that intrigues me. Ive always felt that things get overstated for the sake of safety or engineers. Engines are no exception. Im not trained as a machinist and Im not a mechanical engineer, but Ive seen real-world examples of engines, whole vehicles, that continued to function, some very...

crate engine or rebuild original 350?

First on the left in the pic? First on the left (rear of engine) would have to be a rod for cylinders 7 or 8.

crate engine or rebuild original 350?

I guess Id rather have the guarantee and warranty of a bought engine, knowing I'll spend the same money on either scenario. But the act of restoration isnt about simply buying new parts and bolting them on. Its supposed to be hard, because thats what makes it fun/valuable/worthwhile. its...

crate engine or rebuild original 350?

Does this mean Ive got a 4-bolt main engine? block casting # is 39GM - 14016379 got the heads off tonight. and is orange varnish normal? As I took off the long head bolts, the #5 cylinder intake bolt was milky brown - so I assumed a blown head gasket at that location, but once I got hte...

seperating 350 and 3 speed tranny

Pulled engine and tranny and cant get them separated. I can manage about a 1-2 inch gap between the engine rear and the tranny. Is there something that needs to be decoupled in the tranny before they'll come apart? Ive worked on a few engines/transmissions before and never had trouble before...

crate engine or rebuild original 350?

long winded posts are what Im asking for here....thanks for the input, seriously. My initial feeling about the project was to restore as much of the original truck as possible, keeping the "soul" of the original truck. So rebuilding is my first choice. However, Im wary of spending the same...
