    Fuel mixture screws

You are right. I had forgotten that I was going to do that. I have been getting different advice from different people and I had forgotten. I get only a little time to work on it. But I will get around to it.

    Fuel mixture screws

I would like to ask a question. Can connecting the wrong tachometer to the tach connection on an electronic ignition distributor damage the ignition or the voltage regulator in the alternator. I connected an old SunPro Super tach II and it didn't work. I found out that you need an adapter for...

    Fuel mixture screws

Hey, really appreciate all the great advice on the issues with my 1980 square body. It is running better but still a little rough and still back fires out the carb at high RPM. I still need to pull the valve covers to check for sticking valves or bent rods. And maybe do a quality engine flush...

    Fuel mixture screws

Been working on 1980 GMC Sierra concerning rough idle and high RPM backfiring out the carb. I pulled out all the spark plugs and did compression test in numerical order. The compression numbers ranged from 140 to 90 (one cylinder). The low compression spark plugs all had wet carbon and smelled...

    Fuel mixture screws

This is all good advice and I appreciate it. I don't post often but I do enjoy following the conversations and questions. Owning this truck is causing me to relearn things that I had forgotten or never knew, we didn't have Google, YouTube, or informative forums like this fifty years ago. I hope...

    Fuel mixture screws

Thank you for your reply. I have been thinking fuel /air ratio and also looking for leaky vacuum lines. I had not considered ignition timing. I haven't done compression testing either, 70,000 miles seems very unlikely for a 44 year old vehicle.

    Fuel mixture screws

I have a 1980 GMC Sierra classic with a 350 cid motor. It has a Rochester four barrel carb, number 17063425. There are silver buttons where the idle mixture screws are supposed to be. Does anyone know what the deal is and how I access the mixture screws? Motor runs rough at low idle and...

    Trailer brakes

That's disappointing. I have been telling everyone that it was dynamite; boy, just when things were getting exciting too.

    Trailer brakes

Which is easier, to replace broken differential gears in a rear axle still under the truck or to switch out the entire axle with another one?

    Trailer brakes

I intended to send pictures of the trailer brakes setup; but now it may be a moot point since I have broken something in the rear "pumpkin". I have yet to open the differential, (I am afraid of what I will find). I have included the pictures of the brake controller and how it connects to the...

    Trailer brakes

I really appreciate the many well informed answers. I am not at all knowledgeable about how a trailer brake system works on regular trucks (I understand air brakes). You are right. The controller is plumbed to the master cylinder with a wire spliced to the brake light switch. I will send...

    Trailer brakes

Hey y,all. Does anyone know how to disconnect or remove the trailer brakes on my 1980 GMC Sierra 2500 4x4 truck? I don't know why but they are locking my rear brakes. I really don't need trailer brakes anyway. Thank you.

    Dual tanks dilemma

Thank you. I did find that the flared fitting at the carb. Housing was leaking. With a little steel wool it's now sealed. That may have caused a pressure leak? 7:00 AM started truck. First hit fired and nothing, cranked for long time until I pumped it, then fired up. Oops, I am used to fuel...

    Dual tanks dilemma

Would the restriction affect the amount of gas getting to carb.? It is a four barrel. I fixed that though and put it back to original. I am really having trouble sending pictures.

    Dual tanks dilemma

Thanks for the replies. Here's the upshot. I put gas in both tanks replaced the one missing gas cap. I ran a hot wire from battery to fuel selector valve (valve only has one wire). Wire actuated the valve (I could hear it click). I juiced it several times and left it energized. She started...

    Dual tanks dilemma

Just purchased 1980 GMC Sierra classic 4x4 with dual tanks. Seller filled drivers side tank, passenger side was empty. Missing gas cap on drivers side. Half mile from Sellers house truck died; no gas. Seller paid 15 mile towing bill to my house. Not getting current to fuel selector valve in L or...

    Going square, again.

Hello, just joined. I am glad for Square body enthusiasts. I loved them in the seventies and eighties when I owned my first 78 chev 4x4. I just bought a nice condition 1980 Sierra Classic 25 4x4 and am very excited.
