    Goodbye to my Square

I sold my Square after I picked up my new truck. I couldn't keep both and needed some cash more than an extra pickup. Last photo before giving to the next owner. He hopefully will give it the resto that I never could: One day I'll take a trailer and the new truck down South to pick up...

Inner Cab Heater/AC Housing Reference Pics

I found a couple other threads and links: http://www.gmsquarebody.com/forum/showthread.php?t=323 http://coloradok5.com/heatercore.shtml This sounds like a nightmare job. I thought the tranny replacement was the worst of it.

    Heater core R&R

My heater core just cracked and I'm now terrified that I have to do this job now. Truck isn't worth paying a mechanic to do it, and it's my winter vehicle so I need that heater back.

Inner Cab Heater/AC Housing Reference Pics

I think this is the right thread... but my heater core cracked and died this weekend. I was sitting at a light when anti-freeze steam started coming in through the vents and passenger footwell. I bypassed the heater core until I get it replaced. I have an 84 K10 w/ AC. Which heater core...

    Mushy Brake Problem

One difference... My brakes weren't mushy, actually they were really touchy prior to the replacement.

    Mushy Brake Problem

I had almost exactly the same problem.... I was driving around when my front right caliper froze. I replaced both calipers and I spent forever bleeding the system. I put two bottles of fluid through the system. Pedal is firm when the car is off, start it up it feels softish. Stop it once and...

    Running Hot?

I did a chemical test for exhaust gasses in the coolant and it was negative. I'm fairly sure I have a leaky radiator. Which explains the lack of pressure in the system. I'm going to order up a new radiator, and while its off replace my accessory belts on the engine. Thanks for all the tips...

    Running Hot?

I noticed foam in there recently when I was trying to test out a temporary overflow bottle. I'm guessing this is evidence of exhaust gasses in the coolant? I haven't seen a lot of white smoke, I believe only some steam from water in the pipes when it gets up to temperature. I just tried...

    Running Hot?

I pulled the thermostat. I will give it a longer test drive, but it seemed to be running cooler. The thermostat looks fine, but I didn't try putting it on the stove. I'm to try that trick with the air compressor you suggested. I still am nervous that I might also have a blown head-gasket.

    Running Hot?

I replaced the coolant cap and the water neck gasket. Neither should be leaking now. There is no overflow bottle installed yet. If this motor is cracked I might lose my mind. This truck will officially be a lemon. How can I determine definitively if I have exhaust gases in my coolant? I'm not...

    Running Hot?

I was curious about the ideal construction... Aluminum/Plastic All Aluminum Brass/Copper Etc. Benefits? I'd think all aluminum would be weight and corrosion resistance. But I don't really care about weight that much. What about the plastic end-tanks? Is that crap?

    Running Hot?

So lets assume I need a new radiator... I have the factory radiator with auto trans cooler in it, as well as a http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hda-678 in series. It looks like I can spend anywhere from $90-400 for a replacement. What is the best bang for the buck? What fits the best...

    Running Hot?

I do have the radiator shroud installed. I'll try pulling the t-stat. If I need to replace it, do I need a 140* or 180* t-stat? I've been looking at radiators, and it seems like I can get some aluminum ones with plastic side tanks for about $200 which doesn't seem awful. I have a feeling this...

    Running Hot?

Well, I'm pretty sure it really is getting hot. I thought maybe my timing was screwed up, but when it got hot today it kept trying to run when I turned the ignition off. Also the IR thermometer and the "can you hold the rad hose" test says it really is running hot. Physics lesson aside... why...

    Running Hot?

I replaced the cap and I can still crush the hose. If I turn off the engine and squeeze the upper rad hose I can hear air going out the overflow hose. When I rev the engine I can see an increase in flow and see the level shift. I also repalced the water neck gasket and hardware because I...

    Running Hot?

Ugh. Yeah I can crush the upper and lower hose. But on the plus side, it looks like I've got 3/4s of a gasket on the radiator cap. So I guess I'll toss on a new one and hope for a "stiff hose" :nono: Also my overflow tank is cracked and empty /non functional. That won't help either.

    Running Hot?

With the weather getting warmer (sorta) out here I'm starting to worry about the operating temperature of my K10. The gauge reads 210 when I'm stopped at a light, and usually stays there between 15-50MPH. Sometimes it'll surge to 220. On a hotter day it hit maybe 240 and I started to panic...

    Heat/AC Distribution Troubleshooting/Vacuum Control

Thank you sir! :worthy: It seems classic that after taking apart the whole thing, it turns out to be $2.50 piece of plastic that breaks.

Front Brakes - replace? turn? etc?

Yeah, that one is missing one of the little screws on the face of the locking hub. It worked very well in the snow, so I'll just try and get a fresh screw for it. I checked and the calipers are only 18 bucks at AZ (after core charge). At that price I think I'll replace them just in case. And...

    Heat/AC Distribution Troubleshooting/Vacuum Control

I finally pulled the glovebox and found that blender door white clip was broken! Moved it by hand and bingo... defroster! I can finally ditch that damn dryer vent hose. Hah Where do I buy a new one? Is there a clever fix I can rig up from the hardware store?

Front Brakes - replace? turn? etc?

The hoses "look" good. I'll need to get a caliper out, I might have them turned/machined just in case and replace the pads. I'll try dissembling the calipers, maybe taking them apart and cleaning the pistons etc. Then grease it all back up. I took some shots of the rear. It looks like the PO...

Front Brakes - replace? turn? etc?

I pulled the front wheels off the pickup this afternoon and I'm wondering what I should do now. The truck has plenty of stopping power, enough to lock the tires at will. But they squeal, they pull a little bit to the left, and vibrate. I'm looking at these brakes and I'm wondering what I...

    Let's Talk Welding

I was hoping to cap this expense at $1000 total. So I think a 230V welder is out of my price range. That probably puts me into the 140Amp class of welders. Miller and Hobart are names that are thrown out a lot, they both offer units there. Is a used welder a bad idea? I'm afraid that I...

    Let's Talk Welding

I can't stand looking at my rusted out rockers and cab corners on my Square any longer. I've never welded, but I'll be damned if I'm going to pay someone else to repair the sheetmetal on this money pit. I have no delusions that I'll buy a welder, grab a couple patch panels and get it done...
