I just inherited at Pontiac 400 motor and trans. What is different between this and a chevy. Is it worth keeping. I'm rebuilding a 1980 custom deluxe. We it be worth putting it in that.. Thanks Jerry
Here is a picture of what I have. There is no bolt hole on the manifold to hold the bracket. Apparently that is how that had it when I took it apart. There must be another bracket for this year. It was off a 1973 big 10
I'm putting together the front part of my sbc 350. I was attaching the alternator bracket when I noticed my intake manifold doesn't have a place to mount the bracket. Is there a different kind of bracket. Apparently they just use 1 bolt, because this is the bracket that came off this motor...
Thanks everyone for your input, here is what I'm going to do. I'm going to prime the whole truck with a epoxy primer. Then I'm going with 2 stage paint. I'm a cabinet and furniture maker. So I'm guessing I'm going to try to match what do with wood. I have used single stage stain, with the poyl...
Great looking Truck. It must be a late 1980 I see the square headlights. Mine is a early 1980 model it was the last year for round headlights. It should be painted as soon as the paint Store opens. I will seen some pictures.. Thanks
I sanded it with 220 sandpaper, and it the feels really smooth. If I don't need to prime it that saves me money and time. Now I'm having a hard time finding my paint color. I have went to numurist websites and can't find my color. There is no color for Camel Metallic. Thanks for all the help...
I bought a qaurt of Por 15. I was going to spray that over my problem spots. I'm not trusting I got all the rust.i thought I had to prime over the old paint. Thanks
I fixed all the rust as best you can do without cutting pieces. It's in really good shape, it's about 90% rust free. I'm not really restoring it. This is just my work truck. But as I go I'm wanting a better job. Here is a couple of pictures. Thanks
I'm getting ready to paint my truck. Do I need to prime it ,and what type of primer to use. I'm not looking for a show quality paint job. This is my first time I'm painting a truck. I spray my furniture I make so I'm familiar with a sprayer. What are the proper way to to prep and paint. Do I...
I'm installing my intake manifold on my rebuilt 350. Do I need to put gasket seal on the gasket. I hear yes and I hear no. Can someone help me out. Thanks
Can I use just the Lucas breakin additive with conventional oil. Just because I already bought the oil with a bottle of Lucas breakin additive, but I can return it. Thanks for the advice
I'm getting ready to prime my oil pump today. What oil should I use, and how should I break in this sbc 350. I hear hard is the way to go, then some say easy. I'm more for the easy but this is my first rebuild. So I want to do this right. Thanks
Buy a holley and you will be very happy. They have a cheaper brand called quick fuel. I replace my edelbrock with a quick fuel and it has been heaven, starts every time.
You are correct. That's what I'm doing today. I'm a cabinet maker and I have all the right tools. Why not have the right tools for this. I do just believe I have the wrong size bearings. I will keep you updated. Thanks
Thanks everyone. Ok here is what's up. First I do have all the Pistons and caps going the right way. So here is a picture of my bearings. I don't have a mic, but the new bearing is thicker than the original.
Ok here is were I'm at now. I'm thinking I have the wrong size bearings. What is my clearance supposed to be on a standard 350. I checked it with plastgage and it was . 025. I thought that was good, but when I torque it down I couldn't turn the crank. So I'm guessing my bearings are to big.
It's OK you aren't insulting me. I'm new to this engine building. I just took them all out and the problem is they were mislabeled from the machine shop. I already put them back in and it turns very easy. What a learning experience.
