    Terrible Gas Mileage

I get 8.8 mpg after replacing all the electronics related to combustion (spark wires, ignition, Distributor cap, etc) and rebuilding the throttle body with new injectors and doing a nice valve job. I was previously getting only 6mpg. An extra 2.8 mpg is a big improvment when I add 10 gallons...

    how long does polyurethane last?

I work with a lot of plastics and rubbers. Polyurethane can have millions of formulas, shore strengths, shore hardness, durometers and elastomers which affect the way the Polyurethane stretches, the way it tears, the way it squishes. On my desk I have samples of about 30 different...

    Suburban R2500 Performance Suspension

I want sportier performance. Stock height or lower. I dont want to go so low I cant be sporty on the street. Right now the suspension is like a boat. I need it like a Sport Truck. That would be cool if the lowering springs are stiffer. Definitely dont want to go any higher. The goal is a 2...

    Suburban R2500 Performance Suspension

Thanks, bags are cool for slow rides in mho, but performance wise I think airbags are a step down. More of a novelty. Im trying to get the most performance out of this brick.

    Suburban R2500 Performance Suspension

Hi all, I replaced all my shocks with new shocks. I also upgraded all my brakes to new disks and calipers. Im stopping on a dime now, however I am looking for stiffer coil springs up front that can handle the weight of the 454 and R2500 for performance driving. Can anyone point me in the right...

    DISC BRAKE COVERSION

The reason the bleeders are supposed to be at the top is because air bubbles rise up. It makes it easier to bleed the brakes and not have trapped air bubbles.

    DISC BRAKE COVERSION

My back brakes where not working at all. They were leaking, the axle seal was bad, they needed a complete overhaul. I said to myself, I am not overhauling this trash. If I am going to spend my precious time on getting some rear brakes working its going to be upgraded. Also im in California...

    Lets see those 20" rims!

Thank you for posting this... These look like awesome high performance tires!!! Way better than the grandma tires most of these guys run. I think im going to get the same tires for my rims. These larger rims will also allow my larger brake calipers and my rear brake caliper kit which should be...

    Lets see those 20" rims!

So after all my research I discovered that 20" rims were the best size because they have the cheapest tires @ $80/each. Only problem I didnt take into the equation during my research was the LOAD of the tires which are rated at Load Rating E because the Suburban weighs > 9,000 GWR. So now I am...

    Lets see those 20" rims!

I want to resurrect this thread from the dead because it helped me. Let me say this.... I hate 20" rims... They look so ghetto... I love the look of old school rims. 16.5" old American Racing staggard wide 15" in the back 9" up front. but you know what I hate more than 20" rims? Paying a arm...

454 TBI Timing Question, too much advance?

All new spark plugs (hotter) and all new dist, cap and rotor, the whole spark system is new, everything. Rebuilt TBI. New free flowing exhaust and new highflow CAT Ok so I paid a mechanic to check the base timing and he said it was correctly set at the factory Base 4* BTDC. But It was always...

454 TBI Timing Question, too much advance?

My understanding is on the TBI the advance is to the Distributor is controlled by the ECM not the Vacuum. Vacuum is for Mechanical advance.

454 TBI Timing Question, too much advance?

I found this nice write up on Timing the BBC engines: https://itstillruns.com/time-big-block-chevy-5716636.html They say 18* BTCD is good at idle for BBC and a total of 32-34* BTDC @3500 RPM ***I know the factory says 4* but they are obviously wrong. :happy160:

454 TBI Timing Question, too much advance?

Hi all, ive done research on this and cant find the answer im looking for on my exact engine. Hoping someone can help me out... I just set the timing, this is my first time. Ive never done this before. I unplug the brown timing wire to ECU . I have a timing light from Harbor Freight and my wife...

Aftermarket ECM for TBI / SPEEDUINO

Thats a pretty awesome idea, hmm, never thought of that. Only problem I see is: I wouldnt know how to go about reflashing the ECU to work with my old motor. There might be more dependencies built in (sensors) to a more modern ECU that would need to be removed or disabled from the software. The...

Aftermarket ECM for TBI / SPEEDUINO

Well my goal is to get it running on e85 first then to start tuning and make the most use of this fuels power as possible. If this means changing the cam, heads, or forced induction then im all for it!

Aftermarket ECM for TBI / SPEEDUINO

Thats pretty amazing I didnt even know that Holley made a aftermarket ecm. Thanks for turning me onto this, I cant afford it but I really like it. It seems like this ECM can do everything I want it to do the only difference is the price. Im going to study this ECM more and try to make one just...

Aftermarket ECM for TBI / SPEEDUINO

"manufacturers do not tune E85 ethanol-capable engines for higher performance" , an excerpt from from: https://auto.howstuffworks.com/fuel-efficiency/alternative-fuels/how-e85-ethanol-flex-fuel-works2.htm You see Flex Fuel vehicles may run on 87 octane 89, 92 or 100 but they are not tuned for...

Aftermarket ECM for TBI / SPEEDUINO

That is correct, E85 Requires more fuel flow than regular gasoline so her MPG would suffer. Your wifes impala is probably factory tuned to run on 87 octane fuel, so you wouldnt benefit fromt he power either. You can put 89 or 91 octane in her car but you are just wasting your money there too...

Aftermarket ECM for TBI / SPEEDUINO

E85 Requires more fuel flow than regular gasoline. With this setup you would not be able to mix the fuels as this requires a computer to read the % of ethanol/gas and to adjust the fuel flow rate. I want to be able to run both fuels and have the computer adjust the timing and flow rate...

Aftermarket ECM for TBI / SPEEDUINO

Im looking for a affordable aftermarket ECM for my TBI which I can tune or is capable of self tuning for E85 Flex Fuel and maybe contains a Flex Fuel Sensor. I want it to be able to advance timing and Fuel output depending on the fuel I put in. Im a electronics engineer and I have done some...

    Cant Stop, wont stop.

That is a very valid question. Ill try my best to explain... Im a prototype Engineer. Ive made parts for SpaceX, NASA, Boeing and many Aerospace companies. I dont even ask what they are for. When i got the truck it was not running and the brake lines were so clogged full of sludge the fronts worked but not well and the rears did not work at all.
