    1987 TBI tach install

Should be a couple places in the fuse panel labeled "ign" to tap. Or use a relay and tap into anything that gets power with ign turned to ON.

    1987 TBI tach install

that should not matter too much as long as it is an ign power source.

    that's definitely the tach wire

    31x10.5 with 3:73 gears.700R4 trans. What RPM will I have at 70MPH?

I have 33x10.5 (spec is 32.5in, probably actually 32in, or a little less rolling diameter), 3.73 ratio, and a 700r4. my RPM at 70mph is about 1950rpm and at 75mph is about 2100rpm for flat land cruising. Using the grimjeeper calculator, 31in tires (rolling diameter might be 30.5in?), the rpms...

1987 sbc long block valve cover oil cap

Pretty sure that's how my 1990 suburban is also. Just screws on to the valve cover.

    No power to A/C compressor

The compressor won't start cycling until it gets some refrigerant in to close the low pressure switch. Check for 12v on the harness going to the low pressure cutoff switch. If you have power there, start charging. It might take a can or so before the pressure gets high enough to close the switch...

No resistance in reverse, drive feels like I'm pushing against the brakes

i think it's much easier to pull against the e brake in reverse compared to going forward.

    Diagnostics Cable Adapter

ALDLDroid on an android device and a Bluetooth ALDL cable from 1320 electronics is what I use to have nearly all the capability of a scan tool. you can monitor almost everything the computer sees. I don't see 1320 website working. red devil river also makes one, but you will have to use their...

    Vehicle shutoff while driving

the way it is cutting off like that makes me think something in the ignition. make sure the distributor cap isn't cracked, plug wires aren't touching any sensor or ICM harness wires, look for arcing at night and/or mist it down with water to see if anything is arcing, etc.

Did I buy the right np241 TC for my truck??

90 and 91 were electronic speedometer, or at least my 90 is. so not those years.

    hei distributor

Carrying a spare module, that takes a screwdriver and 15min to change, is a lot different than carrying a spare fuel pump that normally requires dropping the tank. I carry fluids, some basic tools, and easy to repair, likely to break parts - module, cap, rotor, rad hoses, relays for my...

    Windshield washer motor questions

sounds like the pump on the motor is kicking on? you seem to maybe have a mix of parts and need to sort out how it is supposed to work before you can really troubleshoot. there shouldn't be both a pump on the motor and a pump on the tank. you only need 1 or the other

    Gas Gauge Problems Continue

my fuel gauge (90tbi) fluctuates more than I'd think it would. it is a parts store replacement sender that wasn't an ac delco that a shop put in when they replaced the fuel pump. it is worse than my original sender.

    Windshield washer motor questions

for the pump - one of the wires should have 12v with ign on. the other one provides the ground when you press "wash".

1988 Burban TBI throwing 42 code

adding info to an old thread to consolidate for future searches. I had a code 42 popping on me randomly and intermittently. I could feel the engine skip when it would happen and 1 time it died at a stop light. 1 time on a long higheay run the light went off on its own when the engine skipped...

Instrument gauge problem, can’t find much info

the only common thread between the instrument gauges being inop with ign on and the headlight buzzer going off with the ign on that I can think of is the ignition switch...

    Throwing Parts at the Wall

Replacement parts, even AC Delco, often aren't as reliable as a 35yr old OEM part. I'd not replace what isn't broken. For no 1, I'd start simple with the IAC and do a hard reset. Jumper A and B on the ALDL and turn key to "on" for 30-45 sec. You should eventually hear the stepper motor in the...

    '87 TBI lurching and surging

I had a cracked torque converter control solenoid cause those symptoms once on my 1990 burb. but they only showed up after the converter locked once on a drive. I could drive around town fine as long as i never locked up. but if I locked the converter, it never fully unlocked and caused that...

    Oil dripping around starter

I have a similar situation on my 1990 350. it is hard to see in that area, but I think it might be the dipstick tube at the block on mine. like you said, all above the area i can see is dry. and that's the one thing in that area that I just can't see all that well.

    Brown timing wire diesafter unplugged

good call on checking for vacuum leaks and EGR system operation. if you replaced the IAC, you could try a hard IAC reset by jumpering AB on the ALDL port with a paper clip with ign on for about 45sec. that will fully seat it and the computer knows where closed is regarding IAC counts.

    Brown timing wire diesafter unplugged

when you unplug the timing wire, the timing should be controlled by the ignition control module under the cap. if it just dies when you unplug the timing wire, I'd suspect that the module may be bad or maybe is somehow poorly grounded? check the reference library for the service manuals. the...
