    Looking at a 1983 GMC w/ a cadillac 500 motor

Not sure if the 500 ever came in a rear wheel drive car. Every 500 powered car I've owned was in a front wheel drive Eldorado. Great in the winter! Could always bolt a tremec on that beast..lmfao

It's fine the way it is. Glad you got it fixed correctly.

where is the kick down cable end supposed to be at rest on the 4 bbl. linkage

There should be no bracket! The slop in that bracket is causing your problems. Needs to be straight..not a W shape. Connect your kickdown to the carb....if it doesn't fit..get the correct cable or move the bracket holding the kickdown cable closer to the front of car.

Build the engine. No better feeling than having your engine all torn apart on a bench. Put it together with all new parts. When that motor comes to life..youll have the greatest HIGH there is...

    Burb Needs a New Transmission

Prices today are high. I just use the old turbo 400 and pay as I go. New transmission will be $2000. Why not swap a tremec for another $1000. Shouldn't take long to recoup the savings in fuel...

    Looking at a 1983 GMC w/ a cadillac 500 motor

500 cadillac is a great engine. Vintage air kit is about $1000 and includes new compressor. They may have had to remove the stock ac components to get the engine to fit.

    no power to starter/wiring issues

I always use a remote solenoid setup with headers. Removes the problem of heat soak on hot restart.

    Are “cheap” tires bad?

Bought Kelly Springfield once..every tire had puncture within 3 months. Wore out a set of firestone in 3 months. I now run hankook tires. Great tires..never any punctures..long lasting and INEXPENSIVE. [/url[/IMG]

Cranks good, no start / hard start engine cold or warm:

Turning up the idle screw covers up your other problems. Try not to make a lot of adjustments at once..youll lose your baseline. Once you get the VEHICLE idling..the lowest rpm that will idle smoothly should be used. An air fuel gauge in tailpipe would tell you a lot also.

Cranks good, no start / hard start engine cold or warm:

That timing is off too. You can tell by how it sounds. Once you get it running..get the timing dialed in. Should start instantly when timing is set correctly. What do the plugs look like?

Cranks good, no start / hard start engine cold or warm:

Unless it's cold out..that choke plate needs to be open. Install a manual choke so you can make adjustments from drivers seat.

    73 Grand Am 400 4 speed

73-77 safety b.s. changed the designs in a big way. Crash testing became the norm..heavy door beams made the doors heavy. Which then sagged after heavy use. The bumpers were built to withstand a crash..would love to see crash test 73-77 vs a new car. The ones I see online never show the 73-77...
