Piston recommendations for idiot who doesn't know his heads from his asphalt

Well, checked those out and according to the store page they would make ~9.6:1. However, 500 hurts me right in the wallet, and I don't know if I can convince the boss, and she's a hard sell on truck parts as it is :D . Hard bullet to swallow Dx Out of curiosity, will those work with stock heads?

Anyone been able to nail down some specs for Mark IV 454 engines?

no no, it's very light rust because the place I had it stored flooded one week without me knowing, it comes right off with emery paper. Trust me, had a damn heart attack when I opened that door

Piston recommendations for idiot who doesn't know his heads from his asphalt

Are those available in stock specs? Would they be viable given the other aspects of the build? Sorry if these seem like stupid questions, but I'm learning as I go here. Hence why I asked for advice from you guys, who know a hell of a lot more than I do, instead of buying shiny things because...

Anyone been able to nail down some specs for Mark IV 454 engines?

As said earlier in the thread (a few times :P ), the block was already looked over by someone, was deemed to be in excellent condition. It doesn't even need to be bored, just honed up a bit. No ridge, no cracks, all good. Motor had less than 5k miles on it since it was rebuilt. It was pulled...

Anyone been able to nail down some specs for Mark IV 454 engines?

That's been the general opinion, and that's what I'm trying to do. I know I could get away with more cam, but I think the one I've selected is a great middle ground. I'm also a freak apparently because I want a smooth idle :/ I've actually made another thread here, where I'm looking for advice...

    208 transfer case rebuild

Fair enough. Don't know his setup, that's why I asked :) He might be able to, or he may not. Its worth considering. That said, I think the np208s get a bad rep. A lot of people assume because the np205 is so damn tough, that the chain driven np208 isn't, which is hardly fair to the case. There's...

Piston recommendations for idiot who doesn't know his heads from his asphalt

So I've been looking around for a set of pistons, and I've come to understand this choice should be made with advice from those who know more than me. This just a bit beyond what I know. I've work on engines, swapped engines, rebuilt engines, bolted on power mods, but this is just something a...

Anyone been able to nail down some specs for Mark IV 454 engines?

Not sure which stock intakes you've seen, but the one I have is pretty bad. It's restrictive, as well as overly convoluted. I have driven a friends 454 truck before and after he had done an intake swap, and while the difference wasn't huge, the high end power while out on the highway was...

    208 transfer case rebuild

https://www.midwesttrans.com/np208.html This is the site my buddy used. Don't know much more besides he got the parts he needed his rig has been on the road for a couple years since. Have you considered picking up an np205 instead? Usually pretty easy and cheap to find.

    Truck runs rough, help!

Did somebody put the wrong fuel in? Maybe theres something in the tank? I almost wonder if something happened to the carb. Could you have missed a vaccum leak? Try the old spray bottle of soapy water. Check the fuel filter. Double check firing order and such. I know it's all no brainer stuff...

Anyone been able to nail down some specs for Mark IV 454 engines?

Oh god the stock intake, I still have mine just in case and tbh I am legitimately dumbfounded as to how they managed even the underwhelming 230hp. I'm just glad my heads are pretty okay, or so I'm told anyways lol

Anyone been able to nail down some specs for Mark IV 454 engines?

I am the engine builder :P Can't afford anyone else to do it for me. And I know the studs aren't necessary, but its a trivial cost increase, and offers no downsides.

Anyone been able to nail down some specs for Mark IV 454 engines?

To all of your responses, in order lol. 1. Tread lightly :p , my baby is an '83 Ranger, and that truck is my heart and soul. All manufacturers make good vehicles. All manufacturers make bad ones. All of them have great fans. All of them have idiots. 2. I think the point he was making was that...

Thats my mentality. If I can find or be recommended a set for around the $250 range I would be alright with spending that much.

Anyone been able to nail down some specs for Mark IV 454 engines?

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand once again, I'm an idiot. the price of ~150 was for a set of eight, so fuck it, why not. You got a link to or part number for yours, just so I can get an idea of what to look for?

Anyone been able to nail down some specs for Mark IV 454 engines?

Yeah most people are saying I could take it to 500hp easy with only a stud conversion, so I'm fine with that. The pistons on the other hand, they're like 125-150 bucks a pop, and needing eight of them means Imma be spending a hot chunk if I do it. Just something I'll have to think about. As for...

    New guy with new toy

Welcome from the middle of nowhere! Just a heads up, I'm new too. These guys are by far the most helpful and awesome peeps around. Any questions you got, the knowledge here is vast and friendly. Take lots of pics and be descriptive, there's not much they can't help with :)

Anyone been able to nail down some specs for Mark IV 454 engines?

Yeah I kinda figured. The things I'm most interested in are whether the valves are stock size, whether the pistons are domed enough to make better compression, and finding out more about this specific block. I'm not really concerned with the valve springs as I'll be running a lunati cam and will...

Anyone been able to nail down some specs for Mark IV 454 engines?

Alright guys, got a bunch of pics below for you. Cleaning up the casting number revealed a hidden digit. The number is "3999289", which checks out on the list linked earlier in the thread. However, the list doesn't say anything about it so any additional info would be greatly appreciated. So...

alright guys, heading out shortly to go get some more pics. Gonna clean the casting number and figure out what it actually is, take some pics of the mains, some pics of the pistons, as well as pics and measurements of the valves and such. Anything else I should grab? Also, thank yall so much...

Anyone been able to nail down some specs for Mark IV 454 engines?

Wow! I'm stoked to find out. The engine came out of a 73 k20 suburban, and it was factory. That said, they could've replaced the engine/heads. Tomorrow I will get a clean reading of the casting marks. I will also check whether this is a two bolt or four bolt main. Also, I will check the pistons...

Anyone been able to nail down some specs for Mark IV 454 engines?

well aware that the 396 was a hell of a motor, and not implying it was bad at all. Simply that 1) that camshaft picture is disgustingly rusted, and 2) a 396 cam in a 454 pretty much castrates what little power they have. Thats all my man <3 Great, I'll head back out tomorrow with a wire cup and...

Anyone been able to nail down some specs for Mark IV 454 engines?

Where should one look to find casting numbers? I drove out to where its stored, and located on top of the ridge where the bellhousing mates up, was "99928". Now, after using that chart to compare the number, nothing showed up. So I figure it may have been dirty and I may have gotten the...

RECOVERED AFTER STOLEN..HOW TO PREVENT THIS AGAIN

Those were fullsize airbags. You can find much smaller ones out of things like side pillars and such. Regardless, that was a reply to someone suggesting c4. Take your pick between the two. Also was a joke bud lol
