    How to Weld

Don't tell people that! *Disclaimer: not my fault if you don't disconnect it from the truck first.* There, phew. I wonder how much damage it would cause if you didn't. Edit: Better yet Instructions: Connect leads to positive and negative terminals (it doesn't matter which one goes where)...

    How to Weld

I've always liked sub arc welding (S.A.W.) the most. The only problem I had with it was that the base material had to be preheated, and I would melt through a pair of boots by the time I finished one of the larger jobs... That and stepping on a chunk of slag from that process... Like touching...

    Secondary metering rod size?

I know I'm going off in a different direction here, but could this be valve float? I listened to a couple videos on this, and it sounds very similar to what I've got going on. I just rechecked the compression (actually did it right this time) and it seems spot on... A little low but all...

    Secondary metering rod size?

I haven't checked out the link yet, but I'm about to... I think the previous pump that was on there was pretty old... I don't know the brand of the one I put on there. Thanks for the heads up. I will do a flow test on the pump. I heard carbs had less flow than fuel injection engines... 6psi...

    Secondary metering rod size?

Yeah man, I checked it out to... Nice write up there... this truck is dead, and I've got the point about the cam... I cant afford tools or parts right now, so nothing is getting done. I did manage to play with a thermal gun... looks like one o f the cylinders is colder than the rest, and one is...

Any mods to avoid when buying?

I knew you would like that. I mostly daid that for you anyway heheh. But after i think about it for a munute, maybe I am right... a new carburetor could be an indicator of maaaany other mods.

86 GMC k1500 w/350 crate swap, horrible rev response and no power in gear.

I'm going to have to agree with Honky, hypageck. Keep a timing light on hand, but doing it by ear seems to work best. Take note of what you set as sounding "smooth". Then bump it around from there. Modern gas ain't no good, and Timing methods need to change accordingly... But it's anyone's...

86 GMC k1500 w/350 crate swap, horrible rev response and no power in gear.

So you've got a lot going on here, and with New this and New that, it would be hard to know where to start. But I've got a sneaking suspicion that it might be carburetor issue but maybe it's the tranny. You didn't mention any spitting or backfiring so its hard to say weather its lean or rich. If...

    Secondary metering rod size?

Found it.... I even replied "hmmmm...." to this one too.... totally missed the "It holds the plunger in place...." part. Or I assumed that I held it down well enough and it should be ok... and disregarded this important little piece of info.

    Secondary metering rod size?

So I assume the next step is to pull the carb out and apart. In my defense, I had never ripped a carb apart before, and I wasn't sure weather the accelerator pump or the power piston should have held themselves down in their bores when reinstalling the air horn... I didn't know that little...

    Secondary metering rod size?

My mistake, maybe I didn't read what you posted correctly. There was A lot of information in there. I will reread and post back. I'm not trying to bash. I'm trying to solve a problem I have with this truck. All things that I jacked with on the carb, I put back. I have been digging for...

    Secondary metering rod size?

Yes... I read it... But the carb is currently together and I can't get to doing all this while it is on the truck... His way was to just stick a screwdriver down the fuel bowl vent and if you can push it down and it springs back up, its doing its job... Anyway RustyPile, can we agree this is a...

    Patch panel welding

I was planning on TIG welding some patch panels on my truck... I haven't used MIG on sheet metal... And I always blow through with stick welding on thin metal. It might be the machine... More likely the it is the operator. I like TIG most... It's slow but fun. I have a Lincoln invertec.

    Secondary metering rod size?

You are very correct here. I did have this bogging issue since before the rebuild.. The problem I have is that I can't get it to bog in the driveway(in Park). It only does it when in gear. So it's been very hard diagnosing the issue. I will look at where the accelerator pump is hooked to on the...

    Secondary metering rod size?

So I've got one carburetor... And I'm broke (hence why I work on my own s#$%)... and you've got a chord of Q-jets... and you want me to send mine... I've got a better Idea, Why don't you just throw me all of your Q-jets except leave one for Honkey. I can attempt the impossible trying to figure...
