Opinions on cutting out catalytic converters.

Apparently no one reads, n like to argue n be right. 1978: last year no cats on trucks, Federal not just CA. After that, it was based on GVW. Which varied yr to yr.

Opinions on cutting out catalytic converters.

Oh I'm not doubting that some people have them without. I'm just saying what the law is. How people got around it, who knows. But 1978 was last year for no cat depending on GVW. '78 and older had absolutely no cat on any truck.

Reasonable price on 86/87 K30 CUCV with 30k miles and has been sitting for 2 years

The 6.2 in general, not just military, had some minor issues w injection pump on startup and glowplugs. I had a 6.2 in an '87 K10 longbed that I put Peninsular Marine injectors, injection pump and Banks turbo. It would smoke the tires. Before the injection pump replacement, I would spray WD-40...

Opinions on cutting out catalytic converters.

On my '87 K5 350 TBI, I removed the old cat and replaced it w a modern higher flow one, a high flow muffler also. Has a nice deep base now and will also pass smog if it were required to. If your engine is fuel injected and computer controlled, removing the cat, smog pump etc... do nothing for...

Exact same type of turn signal speedo stalk. 3 position slider w push button on end.

    Cruise control

Thanks for the reply. I finally got to look at the connectors on both. My '87 has a 5 pin inline connector and the '89 has a double row of 5 making 10 slots using 7 of them. So there are at least 2 pins missing on mine that the '89 would require. The '89 even has electric speedo output on the...

87 350 tbi runs fine until i stop

Not sure if the EGR solenoid and the EGR valve are the same thing, it's been 5 yrs since I had to mess with mine. On mine, the EGR valve would test good, pulled it off and looked good. But when I completely disconnected it, my truck ran great. Put new EGR valve on and it ran great. I had read...

    Cruise control

1987 K5 Blazer, vacuum type cruise control. I've got a junked '89 1 ton truck w the electric style cruise. Haven't pulled it out yet but was wondering if it will work on my '87. The electrical connectors look the same. Thanks.

    Very rough/rocky desert trail cruising

Definitely not trying to compete w the hp to weight ratio. Just wanna be able to cruise about 30-40ish on those trails without being beat to death. When I bought it, it had a 4 inch lift, even a speed bump hurts.

    Very rough/rocky desert trail cruising

1987 K5 Blazer, 3.73 gears, 700r4 transmission. Curious if anyone has done suspension mods that allow to cruise rough/rocky desert trails at speeds comparable to modern side by side. I paid 3k for this Blazer which has a straight body, full emissions, a/c, fresh rebuilt transmission and runs...

Exhaust gas recirculation (egr) system 1989 tbi

Just a little added info. About 2 yrs ago my '87 K5 350 TBI would stall n buck. Thought EGR. Did all troubleshooting tests n it passed. Took it off n cleaned it and did tests again, it passed. Couldn't figure it out "Googled" the hell out of it and symptoms were EGR. Finally my neighbor said to...

That is what I was using that pinched 4 sets. I guess it worked better for you.

    TBI rebuild completed!

I rebuilt my '87 3 yrs ago. Went through 4 packs of O-rings because I was using grease or something. It needs to be automatic transmission fluid. Once I used that, they slid right in. I replaced fuel pump and put in spring that raises fuel pressure to what it actually needs. Unfortunately now i...

    Engine temp question

All figured out. Upper radiator hose was much higher than radiator fill. Kept getting air bubbles after I had put in new radiator, fan clutch and fan. Cut upper hose and so it is below the radiator fill. Now temp using lazer are good at the sending unit on side of head. Gauge still reads 210 now...

    6.2 diesel hp

If they are still in business, check out Peninsular Marine. They make a lot of stuff for marine application 6.2 n 6.5's. This was in 2000.

    Engine temp question

If I could find a factory one, I would. The fan only makes a difference at slow speeds, idle and under heavy load. If the thermostat housing, upper sending unit, radiator, oil pan all say 180, then all is good. It's most likely hear soak from being by the exhaust ports on the heads that's...

    6.2 diesel hp

I had an '86 longbed 4x4 w 700r transmission and 6.2. Had transmission built to handle 500 lb/ft torque. Put a Banks turbo on it w Peninsular Marine injectors n injection pump. Was putting close to 300hp w/out intercooler. Immediately blew rear main seal out as it was old engine. Replaced seal...

No, it's factory V-belt standard rotation.

    Engine temp question

So as long as my temp at the thermostat, oil pan and radiator are all within limits I'm good? I'll try to get an ACDelco 1 wire sending unit to hopefully get a better reading on the gauge so I'm not constantly having to get out n check.

    Engine temp question

I've got a '87 K5, 350 tbi w 700r transmission. Number reading factory temp gauge. It has a 2 wire, oval plug, temp sending unit next to thermostat housing. It has a single wire sending unit on driver side head between 1st two cylinders. Double wire is for computer and single wire is for gauge...

Another Serpentine conversion w/smog pump question

87_stepper, thank you for that info. Sorry it has taken so long to get back. Does the 93-95 setup use the small a/c compressor (not pancake style) and have the ability to run a smog pump. My concerns are keeping this Blazer able to pass smog in any state.

Another Serpentine conversion w/smog pump question

Bucket, thank you. I currently have the pancake style, I think R4, but would like to go to the 96+ style.
