NC members - anyone know a good paint/body shop?

Hey all. I'm finally getting around to getting some body work and repainting done. I live in Charlotte, NC. Does anyone know of a good paint and body shop within a couple hours of Charlotte? There are a few restoration places in town, but I figure I may have better luck with a place outside...

Novice needs suggestions for new/rebuilt carb

Also, if I get a carb with a different style choke, is that going to make it hard for me to put the new one on?

Novice needs suggestions for new/rebuilt carb

Hey all. Does anyone have suggestions for a new or rebuilt carb for my truck? I am out of my element here. The truck is a 1974 C20 with a 350, all stock. The current carb is a Quadrajet off a 1975 with the divorced choke with the old-school coil spring mounted on the engine - the carb was...

Help - my wheel almost fell off

I’ve wanted to get bigger wheels on my truck but I love the original bow tie hub caps I have. They look sweet. The tires are a little small though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Help - my wheel almost fell off

I pulled the axle and everything looks good to me. I can see one of the spindle lock washer tabs bent in to lock the nut into place, as in the photo posted by Craig 85. The bent tab is at about the 3:30 position in this photo. . It seems strange that the washer isn't designed so more of the...

Help - my wheel almost fell off

Thanks. The tab breaking could have been the problem. I had a couple mechanics work on the brakes that didn’t turn out so well. I’ve had a hard time finding someone around here (Charlotte NC) who is willing or able to work on an old truck. I’m gonna pull the axle and see what I find. Sent...

Help - my wheel almost fell off

If I pull the axle, will I be able to tell just by looking at it whether the locking components are in there, or will I need to take them out to verify? Also, how do I replace the gear oil that spills out? Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Help - my wheel almost fell off

Thanks. My axle is definitely a full float, and he was not referring to the c-clip, as I understand that is in the differential on a semi-float. My guess is he didn't know what the hell he was doing and didn't re-install the locknut or locknut retainer. Here is the diagram from the service...

Help - my wheel almost fell off

Hey all. I have a 74 C20 with the 14-bolt full float rear end. I had a rear brake job done in November, and a couple months ago I was driving with a big load of lumber in the bed and the brakes and speedometer went haywire. I pulled over immediately and saw that the right-rear wheel had...

    What bushings do you mean?

    Door binding on fender

It looks like I might need to remove the fender to access the bolts. Is that correct? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Door binding on fender

I have a 1974 Cheyenne c20. The passenger side door is binding on the fender when I open and close it. It operates, but rubs. There is a little space between the door and the b pillar, so I might be able to slide it back a hair, but not much. Otherwise I guess I would have to adjust the fender...

    PAG oil capacity question

The best I can tell from the compressor chart, it says 10 ounces of mineral oil for the A6 compressor in vehicles with no rear ac. So I'm gonna go with 10 ounces of PAG - 8 in the compressor and 2 in the accumulator. We'll see how this works out.

    PAG oil capacity question

Hey all. Does anyone know the PAG oil capacity for the AC system when using a remanufactured A6 compressor (Four Seasons) on a R134A system? The system is open, I'm going to replace the compressor, accumulator and orifice tube and I'm going to flush the system. The new compressor says it has...

How to remove carb air valve lockout lever

Figured it out. Turned out to be very easy. I was worried there would be some kind of trick, but there wasn’t. I just tapped on the pin with a screwdriver and hammer and then pulled it out with pliers. I think my secondaries are working for the first time since I’ve had the truck. Makes quite...

How to remove carb air valve lockout lever

I got my truck about six months ago and finally worked up the nerve to start fiddling with the carb (I have zero experience with them). It's a Quadrajet 4MV with the divorced choke. The choke mechanism was fouled up with wasps nests, and after a lot of internet research I got the choke and...

Can't find new rear hubs for '74

I'll have to take a closer look at the markings. Maybe it isn't GM at all. I'd send it back to the junkyard and try to get my money back but it isn't worth the shipping costs. These things are heavy.

Can't find new rear hubs for '74

Problem solved. As y'all thought, the new drums were out of round. Got them turned and everything is working great now. Thanks for the advice, and lesson learned. Always turn new drums! As to my original question about finding hubs, I couldn't find any at a local yard but found them on...

Can't find new rear hubs for '74

I’ve been curious, what’s the advantage of converting to disc brakes? Just easier to work on or better performance?
