To convert to auto or not

Sorry the leak out and stay manual, in my opinion. Those granny gear four speeds are tough, but I get the agitation with them... There are definitely other four speeds and five speeds than can be swapped in, some that could be had for less than a built 700R4 and everything else that goes into...

    1987 GMC R1500 SB Stepper

Man, I have this on my local Craigslist and Facebook marketplace... I forgot just how ridiculous people can be. I've had offers of dogs, guns, crappy cars, and really low cash offers without even seeing the truck in person. Dudes have shown up to see it who don't know how to drive stick, don't...

Well, that deal fell through pretty quickly. Guy backed out... So, the truck is still available.

    1987 GMC R1500 SB Stepper

The Burb is an '87 Tucson original as well. I'm the 2nd owner. 3/4 ton 2WD, 350, built 700R4, one piece driveshaft, rebuilt 3.73 locker rear end, dual A/C... A real family truckster. I'm back to daily driving it now that the red truck is on the market.

    1987 GMC R1500 SB Stepper

@78c10bigten thanks. It's been a great truck, but we have two Jeeps, two squarebodies, three vintage scooters, and two motorcycles. Too many vehicles for our little urban property. My wife sold one of her Jeeps, so it's time for some quid pro quo. It's sell the pickup or my Suburban, and that...

    1987 GMC R1500 SB Stepper

Well, We're downsizing and one of my squares has to go. Daily driver L03 305, NP A833, 3:08 open diff. A/C blows cold. Tucson truck, I'm the third owner. A good , honest pickup. Had plans for a new wiring harness, as the desert is rough on rubber parts and wiring. New radiator, slave and master...

    High idle... Sometimes.

Finally got around to checking this issue out. IACV had a serious case of black lung. Actually wasn't too bad, but cleaned it up and did the reset and things are back to normal. Thanks again everyone!

    High idle... Sometimes.

Thanks for the tags @Honky Kong jr . @1987 GMC Jimmy, thanks for the info. Already checked for vacuum leaks, that was my first stop. Since I'm thinking of modding the TBI, maybe I'll just pull it and go through everything. I'll try an IAC Valve reset though. I forgot which pinstopjump so that's...

    High idle... Sometimes.

Hey everyone... The little red pickup (87 R1500/305/NPA833) is acting odd: Fires right up and idles great at 800 rpm. Warms up, all is good most days. *Sometimes* the idle (clutch in or in neutral) kicks up to 1100 and just stays there. I'm thinking TPS? Before I start trying to remember how...

    New Process A833 4speed w/ OD MY6 MM7

Okay, everyone, I'm looking for some feedback: I'm pulling the 305 out of my '87 soon, and putting in a fairly stock 350 TBI out of my Suburban or a freshend up LQ4 (just have to decide if the LQ4 is better off in the Suburban or the little truck)... I'm not that confident about the A833...

    Whats your Dream Build?

Money is not a concern dream build? An Icon Derelict level build of my Suburban. More realistic? Having the cash to finish my red pickup off the way I want: Strange rear end, Tremec 6 speed, blown 454... Bit by bit I'll get there. I'll be settling for a fresh 350, a rebuilt Muncie to replace...

    Vibration at 65

Check the drive line... What is the truck? Out of balance driveshaft(s), carrier bearing, decoupling slip joints, maybe u joints? Sagging leaf springs can throw off geometry and cause a vibration too.

    305 vs 350 - Everyday use

My '87 with 248K on it's original 305. A833 and 3.08 rear end. Cruises at 80 on the highway and does a one-wheel peel with ease. Hauls anything in the bed I need to haul without too much complaining.

    Getting the shaft...

Happy new year, everyone! Had a great Roadtrip with the family over our holiday break. The Suburban ticked over 157k after racking up about 1300 miles on this trip. No problems at all with the new DS, zero vibrations all the way up to a new recorded top speed: I do want to swap out the 3.73...

    turbo 400 to 700r4 swap......should i do it?

I just did this swap on my R2500 Suburban... Did a monster in a box rebuild on a 700R4, used TCI’s constant pressure valve body and a stock converter. Have a nice cooler with a dedicated thermostat controlled fan. It’s a nice transmission, and I’m sure it’ll last, but honestly I’m not as happy...

    Getting the shaft...

Yea, I could have had the original setup reworked, but ultimately this truck is for road trips/ touring. I want as few moving parts as possible... I really should have done this from the start.

    Getting the shaft...

@HotRodPC I think it is just the odd angle I snapped it from... The truck isn’t level and I’m just leaning over. I posted the driveline angles above and it definitely checked out all around. Thanks for keeping an eye on it though! I have a poly trans mount from Energy, but I don’t know if I’m...

Here it is installed. The whole thing weighs just under 30 pounds.

    Getting the shaft...

The ‘burb is back on the road! The new driveshaft got here yesterday. I installed it this morning and it seems dang near perfect. Went for a 100 mike round trip test drive on the freeway, a dirt trail, and through the city. Even up at 85 it is vibration free except for the normal front end...

    Getting the shaft...

@HotRodPC I hear ya. I thought about pulling the tail shaft housing to check, but the output shaft is pristine and the seal isn’t marred at all. I was real quick about getting the truck stopped at the first sound of trouble both times. I’m happy with this trans, but I’m not as in love with it...

    Getting the shaft...

@HotRodPC Hey man! Yep, they definitely screwed me over. Absolutely denied any culpability in the problems... The failure was exactly the same and the driveshafts are definitely a bodge. I’m still trouble-shooting to see if anything else could compound the issue, but it doesn’t look like it. I...
