Hi all,

I am have a 1976 K10 with the sbc 350. I need to rebuild the carburetor because it appears to be leaking from the accelerator pump and other seals. What I’m confused with is the choke. It doesn’t appear to have one on it. Rather a way of actuating the choke plate. Am I missing something?

Any help would be appreciated!

Yes. Your choke is missing.

This might get you started but it will need a rod and works better with the little cover. Might have to hit up a restoration place or a junkyard.

Thanks RaisedK5! I kinda had a feeling something was missing. ;)

Would you recommend going with the standard mechanical choke or putting an electric one on?

To my knowledge they can't be converted. Several items need to be intact and working probably one of more failed and choke was removed.

working heat riser valve
Intake crossover not clogged.
choke thermostat.
choke coil cover
actuating rod
working choke pull-off

If heat riser is there, when cold starting heat should be felt on the choke pad in 20-30 seconds, if not either the plate in the heat riser is gone or intake is plugged or both. Intake can be cleaned out after removal. You can make an actuating rod out of a coat hanger. As noted previous there are several choke thermostats available. Might be somewhat trial and error. Also, the windings on the stat need to be in the correct direction.

Another option is changing to a different carb with electric choke.

Dang…I like the look of that! I’ll be ordering one with the rebuild kit and let y’all know how it goes! Nice find. Thank you! I was debating of doing a manual choke as well. But this looks much more gooder.

The electric choke opens at one speed so the down side is on really cold days it sometimes opens to fast (stalls out)and on warm days opens to slow (hi idle). The thermostat coil choke heats up with engine temperature, so warm day its already off or barely on and opens quickly and on a cold day it opens slower as the engine comes up to temp. I think overall the coil type is a better set up.

Good point. I’ll pray about it before I make a decision . I’ll reply back with what the good lord tells me.
