Paint Gun Advice

I am thinking about buying this gun.

Devilbliss Finishline FLG-4 from TP Tools. Comes with 1.3, 1.5, & 1.8 tips.

This will be my first paint job and I'll probably be using the Blitz Black from John Deer.

Any members here have any experience with this gun?

No experience with that one but Devilbliss has a good rep.

Just be sure you have a real good air dryer and filter.

My boy paints aircraft at a shop in Boise. Uses hi end Sata jets. With all the paint regulations they have to account for every little bit of paint they use. Big time penalties if you screw up!! The less people know what you do with paint the better off you are in most cases.

Finishline is an awesome gun in my experience. Had one for clear, one for base and an el cheap o for primer. I wouldn't use the same gun for more than one application. I could have but never wanted to mix. OCD thing if you ask me

Couple things to note:

1. Be sure to have a regulator on your gun, don't rely on the one at the tank. Don't remember exact psi but can easily be found on internet.
2. Test your spray pattern first to ensure your don't have spatter or its too wide or too narrow. Do this after refilling the paint too even you're still on the same color.
3. Clean the gun right after use and spray thinner through the gun. I painted 3 colors, 2 coats each, and 4 coats of clear. No issues.
4. Wear a mask and proper filters, even if you are doing it in your driveway.
5. Watch a couple videos of people talking about painting vehicles, they have some great tips.
6. Take lots of time to prep the vehicle. Sand, primer, sand, primer, etc. When you tape off your vehicle use a good body tape. If you are two-toning use a pin tape to make crisp lines.

95% of a paint job is prep work. 4% is painting. 1% is wet sanding and buffing.

You buy a new paint gun every time? You only use a paint gun once and throw it away? Serious? Where do you live, I want to go through your dumpster.

Pretty sure he means a gun for primer, a gun for basecoat, and a gun for clear. Not literally a new gun for every coat, lol.
