In the process of removing the heater control knobs on my 79, I managed to snap the pot metal piece that formed the lever for the heater/defrost. A quick look in the catalogs showed this part is not readily available so I decided to repair it. What did I have to lose?
As can be here in the picture there is a raised surface, this needs to be flattened.

Using a 3 inch cutoff wheel mounted in a cordless drill I carefully ground the area smooth, I kept the drill to very slow speeds to prevent breaking this further.

All flat and I cleaned the rear up to help adhesion.

I took some 16(?) gauge sheet metal and cut out a new arm and formed it on the belt sander, this could be done with a bench, angle, or die grinder.

I used some JB weld to put it all together. I had drilled a hole in between the clamps in the steel and counter sunk the hole so that the epoxy could grab The steel, like a rivet would

Well done. I need to do this on my blower lever. I've been flipping the bare metal arm and its getting annoying. Nice write-up!
