Had a guy buy a new Cadillac back in 74 when the seat belts had to be latched to shut off the warning buzzer (annoying). He refused delivery and wanted his money back if we couldn't shut it off. Thought he was a real a-hole, then found out his son went into a huge reservoir in eastern Idaho and drowned cause he was stuck in the belt. So sometimes it is understandable. I still think it's safer to be buckled

There's no absolute answer to this, and it will end up being a personal choice. You know, except when the gov't mandates it. But statistically the odds are in your favor wearing the belt. If you're that concerned about a belt release failure you can always mount a seatbelt cutter in the vehicle. They're cheap and usually have a glass hammer to break a window as well.

I never wear them. Just don't feel safe with a rope around my neck, and if I see the big wreck coming, will be diving for the floorboard.
