The bench seat on my 84 K2500 will not adjust rearward equally. By that I mean to say when adjusting the seat rearward's the drivers side moves slightly further back then the passenger side.

Now before I rip the seat out, only to find this is normal, is it?

Thanks!

Check the cable thingy under the seat it’s more like a piece of mechanics wire, but that’s where I’d start

Yes. Start with this. The other alternative, is that one of the tracks has bent slightly. Both of yhem in my truck had bent, and there was virtually no adjustment to it. The tracks normally have a slight arch to them. Mine were "s" shaped.

No it isn't normal - but I know exactly what you mean. I lived with the crooked seat thing for about three years. Then my kids got old enough to push back on the other side and the problem was forgotten. Then at some point, they didn't seem to want to hang around with Pop anymore and I was on my own again. The twisting was worse by then.

It was only when I pulled my bench out to have it re-covered that I saw how everything worked. It's just like HKJ says:

I forget exactly what the problem was - didn't matter anyway cause the seat was being redone and it came back perfect. But check that the wire that releases the passenger side is taut. Maybe mine had popped out if one of its hog rings IDK. It gets tensioned by the same lever that releases the drivers slide. It leads towards the front edge of the seat and - after crossing over to the RH side - it is attached to that release.

It's a wicked easy fix. Sad part is, I lived like a frickin' hillbilly for 7-8 years when I could have fixed it it an hour. Jeez, you just brought some memories back; like rocking the seat back and forth repeatedly when I was by myself, or if I had a kid with me "Okay on three, we'll both push back"
