Help...Key Stuck in Cylinder

And the cylinder won't turn out of the run position. (it will move to the start position and back to run) I'm assuming it's the lock cylinder, but could it be the switch? and is there a better way to shut it down other then pulling the coil wire?

I've seen videos where the key got stuck in the cylinder so I'd run with that. You're gonna at least have to get in there a little bit to replace the cylinder. I would just pull the pink 12V wire going to the distributor. Anything else I can think of would be messy and/or complicated.

Try turning it back to off with pliers. It may or may not be willing to turn back to run or start again without force. But yeah, the cylinder needs replaced.

Btw, when it's that worn out, you have probably not needed to use a key for a while now, it might have turned without one.

Help Again Please,
I'm trying to get the old cylinder out with no luck.
This is a 77 k10, It has the flashing you need to break out to depress the tang in the cylinder.
I broke it out applied pressure with all sorts of things, with no luck. I can stick a small screwdriver in there and wiggle it and see the cylinder move but I don't feel anything while attempting to push it in. Could the tang be one side or the other of the slot? Or possibly it's not opened up enough? (my old eyes aren't the best anymore).

Any help would be awesome, Dan

That's how mine truck was start it then you could pull out the key. Then one day it stopped turning with or without the key was no match for a screwdriver and a hammer though! Used a screw driver for quite awhile after that lol

When they first get worn out, you can pull the key out with it still in the ON position. This is often accompanied by the ACC position being difficult to turn to (if at all). But when they get really shot, you can turn the thing without any key at all. I still remember the phone call from my brother... I answered and he said "Hey, did you know your Camaro will start without a key?" lol.

Not following you Bucket. It's stuck in the RUN position.

Ok, I think you are doing it right. Whatever has it jammed up is probably what's giving you trouble right now. Have you tried smacking it around and showing it who's boss? A couple good jolts can dislodge whatever worn part is currently stuck.

I'll give that a try when it warms up a bit, if that doesn't work I'll take a slide hammer to the guts and get it out from the inside. ;)
