I'm attempting to swap in a 700R4 out of an 87 IROC into my truck. I've read the only difference is the tail housing but do I even need to swap it over? It's my daily driver and I'm preparing the replacement trans this week to swap in Saturday. I just want to have the replacement as ready as it can be.

Does your truck use the case location for the mount or the one on the tailhousing?

Hmm let me check. I know the mount is on the case of the Camaros trans so I just figured the truck was the same.

Tailshaft is easy to change and does need to be as the F-body mounts are not the same. My truck has a Camaro 700r4.

What about the speedo gear? Same style and tooth count?

Not entirely sure. Mine came from a Firebird which had an electronic speedo. You will probably have to change those over as well, not hard to do.

This trans is from an 87 so it has a mechanical speedo. I've already removed the F body style tail but I'm gonna compare the 2 when they are on the bench for future reference.

I've swapped plenty of tail housings before just didn't really want to do labor that wasn't needed or cause a leak but I'm sure it will work out. This way my truck won't have bolt holes for a torque arm for no reason.

A pan bolt broke off and I just finished up drilling and tapping the hole.

My 87 GTA has the digital dash so it uses the electro speedo parts. Save the gears and note the color. Your mechanical parts are needed for us fbody guys that do the electro to cable conversion.

I have 3 of those tail housings. I have an 88 IROC I'm trying to autocross with eventually. Also have a 66 Chevelle.
