I've had to aftermarket 134a A/C systems. One in a '68 El Camino (Hurricane), the second was was in an '80 3+3 (unknown brand). The 3+3 system was an A/C only. I like the clean look of Sanden style compressors. Both cooled the vehicle, but never really got cold. I think a lot of this had to do with the fact is the vent hoses are not insulated. Very similar to vinyl dryer hose.
The only other thing I didn't like about the aftermarket systems is that the blower is located inside the interior of your vehicle. It added a lot of noise when the fan is on high.
