Just pulled the engine on my 454 because someone used globs of RTV on the oil pan gasket and it finally let go. Worms clogged the oil pump screen taking the crank and a piston and metal particles all through the engine.

I thought about just a bowl kit, but i honestly don't know how bad this carb is. And when I see something like this, I wanna tear it all down and see how bad it is.

The reman qjet is going to be off for two or three weeks. And if the second time doesn't work well, I'm going to just stick with this Holley. It ran ok till I fixed the first leak and that probably allowed the float to actually go full travel.

So if there's a chance that it's my forever carb, might as well it correctly.

Again, if someone is willing to give you 150 for it, send it. That's literally ten times more than I pay for used carbs pretty consistently. I have an actual giant shelf, full of nothing but carburetors.

No, I have a butt load of 4160's, Motocraft/Autolites, and Qjets lol. I take everyone I can find, then the guy's at the counter look at me like I'm stupid for wanting them, which perhaps I am lol.

There's a market for carbs. Hell, if I would have known y'all before I started all this work, I'd be hitting you up for a carb to rebuild.

There's something about working with tech all day long to come out and tinker with a truck that has 0 technology on it. (computers and witch craft).

If it wasn't for the fact that I'm shooting for a 650 horse turbo 5.3 for fuel mileage also... Ive debated about running a 350 HP 350 carbed engine. I just don't see me getting 18-22 mpg.

Hell. Ive thought of running a turbo carbed engine also. Just for old school sakes.

No, you're not. I too take all the carbs I can get. Q jets, Eddys, Hollies, Even the 2bbl Rochesters. I once sold a Qjet that had corroded closed throttle plates but the #'s were for a 67 Olds 425. Got $150 for it. They didn't care about the throttle plates. They wanted that main body with the # on it that matched the 67 425 for a restoration build. Also one of those junky Holley's I got for nothing with that dashpot lever as a vent on the primary float bowl. Turned out to be for a Manual Trans Big Block Chevelle/El Camino OEM Carb. Poor Condition, I got $100 for it.

Everyone, DO NOT TRASH Carbs. Don't make a damn what condition they're in. You never know what someone may need it for or what it fits OEM. That Holley for example. I expected it was a Ferd OEM Carb. Nope. GM SS Big Block Manual Trans Carb. I recently sold an Eddy needing a Rebuild Kit put in it on CL. Asked $100. Guy asked if there was a sale price for today? I said Red Light Special, if you're here by 6pm, $80. He hauled ass and barely made it.

It's sad, carbs in general are getting hard to find now.

Have any large bore 2bbl Rochesters? I don't recall the model number, but they were used in the '69-'70 full sized Chevy cars. Earlier years had a smaller bore and the fuel inlet in a different spot.

I never trash carbs, even if it's dead and unusable I strip em down there's still a bunch of usable parts on it, spare parts always come in handy..
