There should be an unused terminal in the fuse box labeled "IGN". Pull power from that and use a good heavy gauge wire.

Since I just went over his with my 84, and I’m sure 87 can’t be too different.... circuit 3 from the fuse box to the bulk head to the distributor. It’s a pink 10/12 gauge wire. If you look up my thread about no starting or ignition or distributor, I have the wiring diag highlighted. If I were at my computer, I could give more info if needed.

Correct. Its just a straigh pink wire with no frills. It goes straight to the Bat on the distro. There should be to plugs that go to it, three if you have a tach. One that has red, black, and brown. That goes to the cap to the distro itself. The second is a pink wire that goes to Bat on the cap. The third is, I believe white, that goes to a tach on the Tach terminal. Ill see if I can find a pic, if not, Ill try to take one tonight. I dont have a tach in mine..... (yet, I do have an aftermarket one I need to install).

The gray/beige connector on mine is black and that wire would be pink. But you see the brown/black/red connector behind it, and the white tach wire. Its pretty simple. It just needs 12 volts with the key turned to the "Run" position.
