Had a for sale thread, but been slowly making it more of a daily driver. And while I was daily driving it the fuel pump started to fail. So I am removing all of my early work(i do not know what i am doing, so lets overcomplicate it style), and making it correct with in tank walbro 255. Dropping the tank was a pain. I got away with not fully removing the rear end, but had to cut the exhaust. I extended the line and removed the in tank fuel pump previously, now just reverse. Waiting for a new pump now.

It only took 1.5hr or so to get there. Much easier than messing with cutting panels. I was also being stubborn a bit and refusing to actually take the rear end out.

Thats what I did when the fuel pump went on my 99 T/A. There was NO WAY i was going through all of that to get to the tank and luckily I messed up somewhere along my install and my system was bleeding pressure off causing for a hard start after a while sitting. While everything is off you can time your time and maybe rivet in a hinge and simple latch. I was in a rush and just cut 3 sides and bent the metal up. Gotta revisit the project and finish.

Got the new pump installed in to the tank, now need to put everything back.
First is picture on how it was fixed. That sock is being dirty might have been all the fuel problem I was having.
And next one is with the pump.

I think I might sump my spare tank and swap it out. That mythical 20 gallon 1LE tank is determined to remain unfound.

To anyone considering making a fuel pump hatch in their third or fourth gen: PLEASE DON'T!!!!
Besides hacking into a body that needs the strength, there are multiple other issues.

They are exactly that... a myth.

I see the hack as one if the worst things to do on these cars. Mine is all back together now. I am glad that 10 years ago I had the forsight to not cut the stock lines but make adapter hoses. Made it a lot easier to just connect the lines back the way they were. Holds pressure and primes quickly. Will drive on monday and see how it runs in the heat.
