what yr is your rig derick
My suburban is 90 and the 454 came out of a 91 1 ton truck

The trans has the beast sunshell, hd bands and clutches, corvette servo, new planetary set, new main shaft, and shift kit, there could be more but I don't know transmissions that well.

If you have a 700r4 and bolt the 454 to it your 700 is going to be junk also unless you have already spent the money for an upgraded one. The 350 turbo will live longer than 700 but in stock form the 454 will probably trash it too. If it is the 4l80e get it cheap they can be reuilt and cores are not cheap.

Not true. A tbi 454 barely puts out 400 lb ft torque. I ran a Gen V 502 (088 heads, 500 lb ft TQ out the box) in front of a bone stock '86 700r4. With external trans cooler, electric fan and temp gauge, she never gave me any problems. For cruising around town he'll be fine, he just needs what i mentioned (found all on ebay for a combined price $55)to know how hot the 700 is getting.
NO, i never floored the 502 to the peak rpm (3500) so i know it will last. Now if any towing is coming to mind then no going over 4k just to be safe.

A TH350 will also last even tho non OD sucks. Theres a guy who runs 11.7 1/4 time with a pontiac 455 powered 4th gen firebird and has th350 behind it. car has slicks too.

But the best route of all is the 4l80. he'll be happy with that one as i was too.

The 4l60e that came in th 94-02 fcars would break with slicks added to the car in stock form and that is the upgraded version of the 700r4, not sure how yours lasted in a heavy truck behind a 502. 11.7 1/4 mi with th350 probably isnt a stock th350. All my references above were with stock transmissions, I know anything can be built to handle the power. All I was saying is unless he is going to build a stout transmission to handle the new found torque to get the 4l80e, rebuild it and never have to worry about breaking the transmission.

Towing my 5k lbs enclosed trailer, my 700 rarely gets above 150 deg. They can be made to take some abuse

Get as much as you can, better to have it and not need it. get the entire engine harness as you may need to change a few pigtails and the oil pressure sender on the 454 is on the front lower driver side of the block instead of by the distributor like the 350, so you will have to extend the wires for that

The only thing I can think of is the motor itself, the air cleaner if it's a twin stud, and the TPS sensor pigtail. I wouldn't screw around with that newer 8625 ECM or harness. It should only be a matter of plugging in the 454's knock sensor and mounting the ESC module on the intake for your ESC circuit to work. I'm pretty sure you'll need to have your PROM burned for the new operative parameters for it to do right. That's all I can think of at the moment.

Might save some money and head ache to put an aftermarket fuel set up on it. I'm running a fitec unit on mine.
