My step-father bought a new Sierra 3/4 ton in September 1982. It is a very basic, strip-down model, but it does have power steering. Three forward speeds via stick shift on the floor, no A/C, no headliner, frost white paint. It's what my Dad called a "fleet truck." After 38 years, my Dad (at age 80) decided he no longer wants the old truck, and was happy for me to take it. I have a lot of decisions and work ahead of me, and came here for advice. I have very limited experience with anything mechanical or electrical, but I'm inclined to make the effort to make this truck better. It has 220k miles (60k on the 4.8L in-line six engine rebuild), some surface rust, and many minor needs. But it was never in an accident so it has a straight body and bumpers, and runs well. As of today, I know I want to replace the interior (seats, dash, door panels, fix the broken glove box). So far, I'm liking the rust. No holes, just color and some texture. I think they call it "patina" so it doesn't seem so ugly? Some other fix-its like heater, gas gauge, passenger door lock...Anyway, that's why I'm here!
