Sounds like a great easy check. I was planning on dropping the tank down a bit and checking all the line connections at the sender, I'll just pull them and blow a bunch of air through when I do it. What have I done to the 'Burb this weekend? Turned it around in the driveway Saturday morning to change out the T-stat to a lower temp one I bought and put on a phenolic spacer... Then I couldn't find the parts in my disaster of a garage... Enlisted the kids to "help". About 14 hours in so far... -

Yup. My thinking was I should be able to tell pretty quick if it's a drain-back issue if I put in a check valve. I've got a cheap 0-15psi pressure regulator valve, too- If it does look to be a drain-back issue (due to bad pressure relief at the pump) I'm thinking of throwing that on the RETURN...- suburble

Does anyone have an exploded view or disassembled pics of one of the mechanical fuel pumps from a square? I'd really like to see how the pressure relief / return line setup is done. Thanks, -Josh- suburble

Good advice on checking the RUN voltage, simple check and I will do it tomorrow morning. I'll give up on it being a fuel issue when I can see good fuel flow in the filter when the problem happens. For now, when it first starts acting up, the filter is almost empty /completely empty. Rev it...- suburble

Still have the factory Evap system, but everything is in good working order, all new (fuel rated) soft lines throughout the system including the vent hoses at the Evap cannister and tank. Mechanical fuel pump is actually the 2nd replacement in less than 2,000 miles. Previous pump I took off because of this same issue, thinking it must have a bad diaphram or relief spring. Pushrod is new, and I did look through the access hole as best I could and didn't see any signs of abnormal...- suburble

I've actually been pretty impressed with this filter. It's a one-piece deal, pretty thick plastic, and it's really useful for a quick visual to make sure fuel is flowing. Made it real easy to diagnose the mechanical pump as the culprit when I had problems. I found it in the "help" section at... -

Spent about 1/2 hour under the 'Burb in the driveway trying to get the two $%&^$#%&* bolts out that hold the fuel pump to the block. Man,I clearly wasn't planning on replacing it!
