I should also add, that I did change the upholstery on the seat and ordered the type with (2) separate covers ( bottom and back) so it looks good after I cut the upholstery in order to make it flip forward.
My 1978 C20 didn't come with that either. I removed (2) of the (4) retaining screws holding the back in place, I also think I had to trim the upholstery flap covering them a bit. It was a safety thing to prevent it from flopping forward unless you had the factory catch lever. Now it folds...
I also have a 2wd 3/4 tone. I switched the 10 ply tires to General AT's and I have lowered the air pressure to 36psi. I have not seen any extra wear on the tires. In the Winter I also add 350lbs. of sandbags over the rear axle. I must say the ride is surprisingly good, especially in the Winter.
I also have a 1978 C20 350 eng. with 400TH. Had the same problems with my Q-Jet and what I thought were manifold leaks internal. I finally just got a spreadbore Holley new and installed it. It corrected all the problems. Many leaks from the Q-Jet were the problem. Plus you can get away from the...
This is my '78 daily driver. I do drive it in the Winters here is northern Wisconsin too. It is my only vehicle. Thank goodness for POR-15, works very well, but inevitably I still have to chase the rust on the wheel wells and rockers every spring. Chrome wheels last about 4 years then I have to...
I went with a PPG Essentials singe stage, very easy to use, applied with the 3M PSS spray cup system. Easy enough for me to do it outside on a nice day. see how it turned out, pretty forgiving but not a real show truck quality paint.
Here is a picture of my 78 for a comparison, I paid $1700, but 4 years and a lot of work it's still my daily driver, even in the Winters, Thnk goodness for POR-15!!!
