    Th350 from heck

Everything will show up leaking onto the pan gasket seam. Also check: Shifter shaft seal Front pump o-ring and front seal (change the front pump bushing and gasket while you're at it, use a skim of Permatix Black on both sides of the pump bolt washers). Governor cover o-ring Intermediate...

To PCV or not to PCV

PCV also helps the oil last longer by sucking all the impurities out of the crank case. Those impurities are mainly what gets past the rings - exhaust. How long do you think good clean motor oil is going to last if you're blowing exhaust onto it all day? Ever see a buggered tail pipe allow the...

Bore vs. Stroke, a little math

I did a wack of Googling to compare a 377 (400/350crank) and a 383 (350/400crank). The consensus - especially among the circle track crowd - is that the 383 just has a whole lot more usable torque, despite more valve shrouding. And if you had a 400 block, just build a 408. The 377's beat all...

Bore vs. Stroke, a little math

A larger bore will also allow bigger valves, which allow better cylinder filling. A longer connecting rod will have less angularity on the crankshaft throw, allowing a longer application of torque during the rotation.

    Installing valve springs.....question????

There will always be some leakage if you are pressurizing the cylinder. No engine is 100% air tight. A really good engine might leak 5%. Most engines will leak a lot more. But there will be some leak. I like the nylon rope through the spark plug hole a lot better than merely air.

    Door hinge pin

When I did mine, I used the smooth brass bushings because they slipped right into the holes. I think the thicker, (corrugated?) bushing might be for when the hole is REALLY worn out, and you drill it oversize to fit. But I might be wrong - I never found the answer on that one either.

    Rear flip issues

Droop is when you jack the truck up, and the suspension hangs down. The amount it hangs down (droops) is called "droop." You ideally want enough droop that no matter how hard you drive, all four wheels are still on the ground. Sometimes that's hard to achieve. When I design a suspension for...

    Rear flip issues

You're right - my bad. The axle has to move back, because the leafs are angled. You done good. I'm thinking the wrong shocks. Did you peel off a sticker and find a Monroe name a part number?

    Rear flip issues

When you did the flip, were the holes mounted such that it moves the axle forward? Those shocks look SUSPICIOUSLY like Monroe shocks. Would you be willing to peel a sticker off and see what part number they are? With shock extenders, you should be able to use stock rear shocks (Monroe 33084)...

Can you post pics? I don't see any pics.

Polyurethane bushings on a 4wd daily driver

"They say" to never use a poly trans mount - always use rubber. I had poly for a couple years, all the while chasing driveline vibration. Eventually chucked it and went rubber and s-m-o-o-t-h since. I've had poly suspension bushings in my last three vehicles (none 4WD), and they do ride...

    Should I cut more coil?

Technically, a shorter spring with the same number of coils will be a softer spring. If the front doesn't settle much over time, just cut 2" off the end of each coil spring at a time to sneak up on the ride height you want. If you have factory half-ton coil springs in it, consider installing...

    Carb or tbi

I would keep the TBI, hands down, no question, from a driveability standpoint alone. If the engine deviates from stock and the TBI ECM cannot deal with it, you can go MegaSquirt for less than the cost of swapping everything over to a carb and then have all the benefits of a completely tuneable...

    3.08 to 4.10 gear swap

You might find someone selling an open carrier who has swapped in a limited slip. I went from 3.07:1 and open to 3.73 and limited slip, and I tell you - I wouldn't go back. I am SUPER happy with the limited slip.
