Ok. Finally had time to look into this old girl. Look at what I found in the secondary bowl. My 11 yr old son and I decided to do a complete tear down of the carb after we saw this. What a difference there is now!
It has a performer intake. This one was built for low end grunt for truck pulls but still streetable. It will rarely see 6500 rpm but I want it capable when I need it. I know there’s a local shop nearby that has a dyno. When I get it out of winter storage I’ll see if he can set me up and we’ll...
Thinking about a carb swap. I have a 750 dp Holley on my built up 454 and I feel like I should go a little bigger. The engine feels like it has a restrictor plate on it. It should perform better for the work that was put into it. Looking at Quick fuel 800 or 830. Any feedback is welcomed.
You are correct. These 16.5’s will last me until I’m done with it. Then it will be my son’s problem if they go completely obsolete. I want this somewhat period correct.
These aren’t chinese metal, that’s for sure. The guy that machine polished them for me said he got them so hot he couldn’t touch them without using leather gloves. I’d search for an old set any day before buying new ones.
I didn’t know they were available again. I looked a long time for an older set. Talked a buddy out of them that had em sitting in the corner of his shed for years.
Those wheels will stay with that truck as long as I have a say. I think they fit and look perfect. And it will take more than a good set of wheels to make a Ford look good. My opinion
Thanks guys! I have a little bit of interior work to do yet and maybe upgrade the carb. Big blocks should be used at their full potential. Hopefully get this 100 percent before my son takes it from me.
