    Update on the temp problem, two sending unit in a row were bad, or the guage. Verified with a heat gun. But my potential timing issue still remains, so I will have to work on that tomorrow. Thanks.

I set base timing at 5 degrees advance, then plugged the wire back in, which brings it to about 18 advance at idle. Revving up...

    It's upgraded to a 18 psi regulator. Haven't pulled plugs again yet. If it's lean, would having a custom chip burned potentially be a fix?

    I think you're on to something @CorvairGeek and like the rest of you suggests it appears the sensor is an earlier style. With no definitive answer, instead of causing more headaches I'm gonna stick with the old saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it"

    Brought it to my builder today and he tore it down. He's bringing the block to a shop to clean it up, bore it out and resurface the deck. Going to be about a month before I get it back but I won't forget to update this thread.. Thanks for everyones input so far

    Steering gear box replacement or rebuild?

    Steering box is leaky and very sloppy on my 87 R3500 with hydro boost if that matters... Is there a good quality and cost affective reman or new unit out there? Or should I have some one rebuild mine. If that's the way I should go what is the preferred company? Thanks all
