Texas is straight forward as stated above. I have done it twice in the past 5 years. Not expensive and didn't take a lot of time. YMMV depending on local office.
Had the same issue when I flipped the rear of my 87 Suburban. I had the leaf spring re-arched in Amarillo TX, and later added a set of shackles to get an additional .75 inch. No c-notch and zero issues.
Have a buddy that swapped a Duramax into a 1980 3+3 crewcab. I was there when they put the hood back on (very little clearance, but it fit). He said that there weren't many that he had heard of being done before his (4 or 5 years ago). It's a beast, and he absolutely loves it.
My vote is, go for it!
