Why does everyone dislike the 6.2 diesel?

The power to weight ratio sucks and there isn't a whole lot you can do to get more power. No one really makes aftermarket parts, but fuel economy is great.

    Timing a 6.2 Diesel

He's right. where your injector pump mounts up to the engine there are two hash marks. It isn't easy to twist the IP because of the hard fuel lines hooked up, but that's good because every 1/16 of an inch is 3 degrees. Small adjustment, drive around, repeat until satisfied. I have read that the f-150 up to 1996 has similar bed dimensions for bed caps. Sorry I don't have much more information, I'm still researching for myself trying to find a nice camper shell.

Are the 6.2 diesels a good engine?

I have a 6.2 and so far it has been reliable, a good work horse. however, if you're like me and new to diesel it is a pain to troubleshoot. If you do end up picking it up, grab a haynes diesel repair book on your way home. So far, everything i've run into has a solution in that book.
