I would be swapping both axles. Unfortunately the axle was given away before I get ahold of it. I would've shelved it for now until I got the money together to swap both at the same time.
Gotta get rid of this 3.08 gearing. The high gearing mixed with a stock 305 engine and 700r4 transmission...
I found a free rear end that's supposed to be good. And says it's off of a 2003 Chevy hd. It has 4.10 gears and is posi traction and floating axles. I don't know what the floating axles part means, but I love the 8 lug and that it has calipers.
Is there any way I can swap this over to my 84...
I still have my factory automatic hubs. So I'll have to do some research on how to rebuild them as they still work really well.

It could be. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if it's the u joint in the front axle. It was pretty rough looking the last time I looked at it

I wouldn't say dry pavement, but it was on the edge of a partially snowy parking lot. Either way it would have been wet. And crabbing is a very good description

Does anybody know what would be causing this weird thing my truck does at full steering lock when I'm in 4wd? It's like I'm driving over something every time the wheel makes a full revolution. The truck doesn't do this when in 2wd so I know it's because I'm in 4wd.

I don't have a tach yet unfortunately. I'm also not sure what the converter locking up would feel like. But, I did make sure the tip in switch has vacuum going to it. (If I'm remembering correctly it's vacuum operated. I don't know if the trans is wired correctly. I assume so.

It makes sense. When you install about pan on an engine you adjust the pickup time so it's near the bottom. I could see the same being true for a tranny pan

I took the truck check to them immediately after changing the carb. They looked it over carefully and said everything looked and shifted great. I don't see what more I could have possibly done.
