Thanks for the help everyone. I drove the truck around yesterday without the belt on the a/c compressor and there is no squeal. I should have started this project by removing belts but the heat on the alt belt and pulley grabbed my attention. It’s kinda weird because I didn’t have any issues...
I did read about the different size crank and water pump diameters causing issues. Thanks for the pics...it does help.
I am changing the wire size because the amps on the old alternator was 66 and the new one is 98. I won't change the pulley size and was talking about changing the belt to sit...
I appreciate all the help. It's been a while since I've had a vehicle worthy of forum fun (1988 mustang gt....15 years ago).
Plot twist: I removed the alternator belt and fired it up. Still have a chirp which goes full squeal in upper RPMS. I removed the belt to the smog (?). Still had the...
The pulleys are on rebuilt alternators. I'm on my third alternator. Thank you for the reference as the belt does sit a little lower in the pulley. It's not flush. Maybe this would cause the heat issue on the pulley?
This is interesting as I left the lights on the other night and had to jump...
Thanks for the input. I’ll post pictures tomorrow. The squeal is happening with 3 different alternators (and different pulleys) but the same belt.
I read somewhere that you can disconnect the alternator and see if it eliminates the squeal/heat. This is supposed to differentiate between an...
Hi all! I have an 84 scottsdale with a stock 305. I have been fighting with a squeal that is most pronounced during acceleration. I bought this from a buddy in a different state and have owned it about a year. The squeal would come and go but now it's here to stay. Here is what has been...
I bought the parts needed to rebuild mine. Got 90% done on one side (couldn’t get the pivot pin in right) and gave up. Precision rebuilt them and it was totally worth it.
