Yeah, I guess Cali smog laws have changed a lot since I had that cat-conv thing. FYI: Cali's stated stated goal is to get ALL older vehicles off California roads by making it almost impossible to get them smog compliant. I totally agree. Back in 2008 my '86 3500, which I bought at an impound auction in Oceanside for $500 bucks, had the totally wrong carb on it when I picked it up. Didn't know that at the time, but took the carb off for a rebuild and also R&R'd the intake manifold to clean all the passages. When...- Dave Kay

About 10 years ago I had smog failures on my '77 C20 and the shop that did my carb rebuilding couldn't get it to pass so they put a cat-converter on it. That really dragged down the trucks performance but it passed. You might look into having one installed on your truck and make it a BOLT-ON...- Dave Kay

I've been wondering about that myself, as I have a 20ft trailer and taking measurements of the vehicles, both are almost 18ft long bumper-to-bumper, and loading them backwards then crowding them forward 'til I get the correct tongue weight would put the heaviest part of the truck pretty much... -

Me too~! (not the 300hp 5.7!) Taller tires/wheels wasn't something I had planned until now that I see guys going with 17 inch wheels/tires on square-bodys. So I'm going to investigate that option for my M1008. The tires currently on it are still fairly new, 235/85/16's, and they are 33inches, so... -

BTW: I have a CUCV too. Pretty much stock from the govt except I installed a Gear Vendors unit for hwy travel. She's no screamer but I can cruise at 65 nice and comfy. More on that one later... -

15" vs 17" wheels
I got pretty good service from 2 different sets of Goodyear AT's both on the same work truck. Tried the BFG's and they rode hard and the sidewalls were really stiff. Guess I liked the older-guy type ride! (lol!)- Dave Kay

Will load 'em head-in, got it, thanks~! Okay, you guys got my hackles up now! Dug thru a bunch of paperwork and found truck titles. Truck weights are as follows: C20 = 4080lbs; GMC 3500 SRW = 4460. Small block w/TH400 in the 3500, and C20 is a 292ci w/TH350. Other than that, there's not much... -

Thanks. Since I first posted this, I decided to look into weight distribution hitches and am seeing ones on eTrailer for 10K loads for about $350, not bad for my budget. And a couple others here suggested the WDH option too, so I believe I will spring for one and give my setup a safer, better... -

Wow! Hardly an inch to spare! I'm surprised U-HAUL let you load that size of truck! Rented a U Haul car-trailer like what you have there to move a '72 VW Beetle and the U-HAUL agent kept cautioning me about overloading it! Is it their job to treat everyone like we're liars? (lol!) -

Thanks! Trailer is brand new and so are the tires. The tires are steel belted LOAD Range E requiring 80 PSI--- Overkill~! -

Looks like you have an equipment trailer there. Or is it just the photo quality? I shopped for an equipment trailers before getting my car-hauler, only what they had to offer were mostly 12K trailers which were coming in at 4k by themselves. Too rich for my GMT! Thanks for your input~!
