What really gets me is the 4 stainless bolts and nuts right next to all that rust to hold some sort of "brace" that just goes between frame rails and is not even related to bumper nor is not related to anything else!

I have never seen another truck with this bumper. It almost looks like a van bumper.
Well from the pic you can see my predicament. The brackets look nothing like you can buy. There is a bolt through the top and bottom of bracket holding bumper onto bracket. A long brace the runs...

1980 didnt have 700r4 because that came out in 82. So if this wiring is original (and it may have been transplanted, who knows what people have done in these old trucks) then the Jimmy could have had a TH350c. It was like a precursor to the 700r4. It had lockup for 3rd gear.

I need this style that mounts with 2 bolts behind the fuel door.
I used Mevotech on my entire front axle swap/steering that I did last spring. Love them. I even have Mevotech on my 96 Grand Cherokee rebuild I did.
They now have a new Terrain Tough line from Mevotech that looks even better than the Supreme Chassis line that I have used.
Mine may be vinyl too...never paid much attention to it except the gloves, ice scraper and screw driver that is in it.
