    The 8.5 corporate rear is plenty for your rig. All sorts of aftermarket options. You can order drop in axles, gears etc. Whatever you want. You are leaving a lot on the table with 3.08s with the od trans. 3.73s or 4.11s would be more than drivable with the 700r4.

    It's not going to steam if the water pump isn't turning. What you had happen is about worst case scenario. I'd be surprised if you get out of it with it replacing head gaskets or a cracked head.

    You'll likely eliminate some vacuum leaks. Is it a standard q-jet or is it a compu carb? The compu carb will have wires going to it. 2 plugs

    You'll gain next to nothing yanking that crap out. The anemic 120 horse 305 will go to 123 horse. You have much bigger fish to fry.

    If it has the crappy computer controlled q-jet it'll have an oxygen sensor in one of the exhaust manifolds.

    The vacuum pump you're thinking of isn't for ventilation. It's a crucial part of a dry sump oil system to control oil. It is not part of the pcv system.

    With a 6.2 you'll have to learn to love oil leaks. Power wash/ steam clean and then watch for where it starts to leak. You'll likely find you have multiple leaks.

    Yeah you'll need to turn the egr valve off. The ecm throws extra timing in when the valve is open to compensate for the loss of vacuum. For what it is worth you won't gain anything by tossing that stuff. The EGR doesn't operate under WOT and the air pump is harmless.....

    I get 17 with my 77 camper special. It also has a duramax and an allision though. With a proper tune you should see mid to low teens. You have to drive easy though.

    Q-jets are easy to rebuild. Make sure it is clean and set every damn measurement that comes in the directions. Set it for your application as the directions state and it'll run great.
