LED Interior Lights

I had a few LED bulbs laying around so I thought I would see what they would look like in the old chevy. I put one in the heater control and 4x4 selector. I like it so I had to order more for the rest of the instrument panel and one for the radio. Here is a couple of pictures.

I converted my old Accord over to LEDs (dome light too!). I really liked it, and plan on something similar with my truck. I was thinking of doing some blue LEDs for ambient light on the floor boards when the head lights are on.

Here are some pics of the cluster and the blue dome light LEDs in my Accord, for an idea of what it looks like.

Just so you guys know, big truck are into LEDs big time. If yall know where a Chrome shop is near you they usually carry every type of LED made. If you don't have one nearby check out www.4statetrucks.com they are the home of the Chrome Shop Mafia from Trick My Truck. I used to shop there for years and they have every LED known to man.

I may be talking out my rump here, but as far as I know, the dimmer typically doesn't work with LEDs. You would need some kind of PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) module to tie into the dimmer switch. This would rapidly turn the LEDs on and off to make it appear as if they are dimmer.

Yah, I figured, that's why I asked. Want to know what his experience is on his truck. I figured it would either light full or not at all when you move the dimmer one way or the other.

I don't see where I would ever want to dim the lights anyway. I like how Evil's cluster looks with that bright white.

The dimmer is only about 25% of what an incandescent bulb is, but the whole point of these was to make the dash brighter that stock, dimmer function isn't necessary because I chose these LEDs exactly because they had no forward facing diodes and this not hot spotting or intense glare/light...

thats nice, i will look into this and do it until i have enough cashola to put in some sweet autometers, really looks good bro, what kind of hardware did you use besides the leds themselves? any special sockets or anything?...............(i have barely any electrical experience besides my new exterior lights which was pretty straightforward)

How many bulbs are back there anyway? I'm pretty sure I've got at least one out because my spedo is a lot darker than the fuel gauge next to it. Might as well start prepping. Can you change them without fully removing the cluster from the dash (taking it aloose and leaning it forward with everything still attached)?

I like the output of the LEDs in your cluster Evil. Any info on the LEDs you used?

The LEDs mount into the same sockets as the stock bulbs, they are a replacement 168/194 bulb. The ones I chose have a side firing diode on each side so they don't cause glare and hot spotting. There are (5) LEDs for the backlighting of the gauges and (7) for the various indicator lamps. I swapped everything but the 4WD and ALDL lamps as the ALDL wasn't happy with an LED for some reason and the 4WD indicator will likely never get used, plus I stole that LED to use for the A/C Control panel because I didn't plan for that one...

FYI, the speedo will always look a little dimmer than the other gauges because there is a goofy bridge built into the cluster case that blocks light from getting to the face of the gauge in the upper right half of the face.

Also, I did paint the whole interior of the cluster case and the blue back of the trim panel a high visibility flat white to reflect and disperse the light better.
