I just got some GMC letters for the top left of the 73-74 tailgate and I'm curious on how they stay attached.

3m double sided tape would do the trick. Get the red stuff and just clean the area really well before sticking it on

tape would be tough to make work on these and the pegs will not be cut off.

You can locate where the holes for the pegs need to be on the tailgate, drill holes, then held on by the double sided tape idea.

These are not that different from the fender emblems which I attached to my ‘77 exactly the way I’m suggesting for this tailgate emblem

I do have the measurements. I was just curious what they did from factory.

Looks like there's supposed to be some speed nuts holding it on. No idea how to get them to the posts though.

Barrel nuts were commonly used on blind holes . They still work well. You can remove the emblems easier and not have to deal with tape residue, but you have HOLES

Speed nuts self thread onto those pegs. Just gotta insert and start threading them on.

It's the same for the grille emblems.

I was actually unaware of the existence of barrel nuts when I posted earlier. Upon seeing them, I gotta say those look to be the right choice here. I'm still trying to figure out how I got this far along, without running into any before, lol.

Maybe its a difference in the years? My 74 has speed nuts for the cab trim, grille emblem, and the tailgate band emblem. No barrel nuts to be seen.

From the looks of where his gate is drilled on the stamped logo, I don't think there's any opening to get a speed nut over to it, let alone all six.

We had to pull off the inner panel to access the bolts to the tailgate band. I'd assume its the same for that emblem.

It appears to be up at the top of the gate. not sure how much room would be available. Did the early gates have access panels? I don't recall any on the later ones, but I've never owned one that early in the production run before.

Welp... walked out to the truck and guess no access panel. Coulda swore there was, must've been my buddies yota that i was thinking of.

Gotta be them barrel clips then. Probably just pop those in and push the emblem into place.
