I forgot to mention earlier that while the th400 adapter can be used, it does require some minor machining for it to work.
Please define "minor machining". Lol

Well, I can't remember. I looked into a 4L80e swap around 8 years ago, so it's been that long. I think it had something to do with the mounting surface. A lip needed machined or removed, iirc. But at the time, it seemed like no big deal.

So, I went to my honey hole junkyard today and picked up a tranny to t-case spacer, and the remainder of a 208 transfer case with the correct 32 spline input shaft (which I had gotten the tail housing off of last year); total cost: $30! Then, I went to my programmers shop and picked up a complete harness that came from a 6.0/4L80E for $50! We are rolling now! But, when I got home, the spacer hit the transmission pan. Oh well, I guess it's back to the junkyard in the morning.

Just get a nice cast aluminum pan! They seal very well too since they are rigid.

The pass through vss has been working fine for the 5.3. I'm hoping it will be ok for the 4L80. Time will tell

You have a few VSS options, the Dakota Digital is easiest, simply because it will allow the trans to shift properly in low range.

There are additional options to that as well, but the easiest is still the Dakota Digital. Just plug it into the case you have and go do burnouts.

Would the cast pan not take up the same space as the steel pan?

Oh, I thought you meant the two parts collided in transit. My bad, lol.

So where does it hit?

Where the bolt holes for the tranny mount are on the bottom. They are offset toward the tranny a bit and interfere with the pan.

And that's a th400 adapter? Maybe that's what the issue was... and maybe I should have just kept my pie hole shut earlier.

There is either more than one style, or that is some other spacer, because I'm seeing one online where the bolt holes are directly underneath the spacer. That's the kind I need
