I personally like the way these old trucks ride. If I want a cushy ride, I've got a gmt400 or a Saturn to choose from. It tends to separate the men from the wannabees. Two of my (to borrow a phrase from @Honky Kong jr ) psychotic ******* hatreds are people that buy these trucks, then b!tch and moan about fuel mileage and how they handle. These things are like Legos for adults at this point, you can make them into anything you want. The guys that buy them with unrealistic expectations just befuddle me though.

What? You don’t like 40s on 24s with a huge lift for a work truck? I work with a guy with that setup. He needs a ladder to get **** off his truck. I always laugh.

I think ride is relative. My buddy has a square with k10ish springs. I happen to live around unpaved roads. Softening my unit up will keep it from rattling itself to pieces. The stiffness of his k10ish springs would be beautiful.

As far as the mileage part, I think it’s reasonable to discuss if it’s a priority for that individual. But you need to be realistic and willing to put in time/money. Even then, it’s no Prius...he has a 12v Cummins in his square and no lie averages close to 25mpg with a small lift etc. that being said he’s like me and rarely exceeds 55mph or sees traffic. Our commute has only two stop signs and it’s 25 miles each way.

It’s the snowflake entitlement thing....don’t try to figure it out it will only lead to loss of intelligence and a headache

And while we’re on the topic of axles and running gear...

I think I have the 5/4 ton leafs from when the PO swapped running gear. There are ten leaves per side: an overload on top, 8 leaves together, then a thick one at the bottom.

I'm assuming you have the same set up as me. Do you have the angle brackets on your frame for the overloads? If so, maybe consider taking a couple of the middle leaves out and run a Zero rate block from ORD, while leaving the overloads. This way you'll get a better ride, but have the same stance and same extra capacity when needed.

yep! that looks the same...except your frame looks awesome and mine looks not as awesome. your truck looks sweet!! i'll look at the part you mentioned.

if you ever think about converting that 14ff to disc, ruffstuff is right down the road in loomis and they make a nice kit. you get to use all oem parts and retain your parking brake.
