I have a 1988 GMC Suburban V10. It has axles out of a 78 3/4Ton. I'm changing the axles for a better gear ratio, Rearend is the same and on the front Im going from a Dana 44 to a GM Corporate 10 bolt(8 Lug). My question is are Warn 9072 locking hubs and 20990 locking hubs interchangeable if you swap the hub and rotor as well. One is the flange style and other is straight. Here are some pics I found online of the two types of lockers. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Okay, let's see if we've got this straight:

I have a 1988 GMC Suburban V10. It has axles out of a 78 3/4Ton.

Your 88 Burb currently has F/R axles that were originally under a 1978 K2 - and the front axle is a Dana 44. Right (as noted below)?

I'm changing the axles for a better gear ratio, Rearend is the same and on the front Im going from a Dana 44 to a GM Corporate 10 bolt(8 Lug).

"Rear end is the same", I'm guessing refers to the F & R axles having the same gear ratio? As for the 10 bolt Corp axle that you plan to install; what year - and weight class - truck did it come out of?

As a general rule of thumb, D44 and Corp 10 bolt outer parts are the same (or interchangeable) - but, that only applies if they are in the same year ranges. Your images show a 2nd design lock (top) and a 1st design lock (bottom). But I'm not sure that bringing the hub/rotor sets over - along with the locks - is an option either. I think the outer shaft diameters and bearing OD's are different on Dana vs. Corp.

You know what, I'm going to hand this off to someone who actually knows what he's talking about. Bucket is all over this stuff - ask him.

What's tripping me out is the top pic looks like a 5-lug.
EDIT: OK I see the pics are ones you found online, not your actual axles. Whew. But the original post is still confusing. "Rear is the same" does that mean the gear ratio of the rear axle is the same as the current front axle? Or same as the new front axle you're getting? Or are you one of those folks who calls a front axle a "front rear"?? I think the actual locking hub knobs are interchangeable. What gear ratio do you have/are you trying to achieve?

Those flange style or "external type" locking hubs are the earlier style and have their own hub to match. You can swap in the later style hub/rotor if you also use the matching '77 and newer spindle. The reason being is the later style hub used different bearings. It doesn't matter if it's a 10 bolt or d44, it just has to be '77 or newer.

Probably ford or dodge variants

The top pic is a late 80's or early 90's f150 rim. Bottom pic might be 70's Dodge.

When I said same rear axle I meant the same that is currently on it with the same gear ratio as the new front axle. The Bad axle has Brand new flange style locking hubs and new rotors. I'd like to be able to use everything from the knuckle out from the old front axle and put in on the new one.
