Which wires?

I see factory wires on the floor. I also see aftermarket wires in a loom screwed to the tunnel.

GM used to run wires on the floor under the carpet all the time on trucks. Not tucked off to one side, but like where your feet go.

Actually GM used to run the wires under the entry trim on the drivers side, and they wrapped it in some kind of a burlap (I think) or similar sheathing. If yours were run under the carpet randomly then someone else probably did it before you get to digging there, and the only one that usually ran to anywhere around the seats or under your feat was the seat belt ground (which turned off the annoying buzzer on trucks that had that setup), because there as nothing else really to run wires for (no power seats, no heat, nada)...

I have to disagree with this. My '88 Suburban rear speaker harness comes to mind. The interior was bone stock and untouched when I got it. The wires run along the passenger floor, between the sheet metal and the jute padding. I've owned others with wires routed from the factory in a similar fashion.

But the fact is, GM actually DID 100% for sure run wires under the carpet, on the center hump on 4x4 trucks. Whether it be for the reverse lights, 4x4 engagement, or just the console lighting on the 208/241 trucks. This even carried into the gmt400 generation of trucks.

Ribbons?

That reminds me, my '70 Impala is another one with wires under the carpet.

I forgot to say, I don't disagree that the wire harnesses for the body and interior were generally run along the sides, under the scuff plates.

I see. So that's what the ends look like... I guess I've never replaced one.
