Cool idea. What paint did you use on the angle iron? Got a nice texture to it.

I wonder how well this idea would work for the 73-80 year model guys as to getting rid of the springs and maybe not folding their hoods in half?

Never thought about that...but with a little modification..I don't see why it wouldn't work.

This particular setup has the wrong geometry for those style hinges. When lifting the hood, it also moves forward, which would be counterproductive of what the struts are trying to do. Besides that, the hood would still try to buckle because of where the strut is mounted to the hood. BUT! There's still a way of doing it. The strut would mount at a point on the hood that's closer to the leading edge, and it would mount to the fender back near the hinge. This way, the strut would lift the hood as well as help move it forward. It also would put the stress at the front of the hood to keep it from buckling in the middle. And as another benefit, the strut would be out of the way of you leaning over the fender to work under the hood.

...sounds like you have created a diy project. Be sure to post up pics of your work if you venture into the modifications.

Thanks....its nice to hear the "swoosh" when the hood opens, rather than the "TWANG/SCREACH" that I had before the mod.
